BOTTOM LINE!! Don't bid on ANYTHING unless you FULLY agree with EVERY term in the auction. If you read everything, don't contact the bidder BEFORE bidding (or don't contact eBay if you think that they are stepping out of line) and THEN bid on the item, and THEN start bitching afterwords, you are an a$$hole

Fine then. I'm an asshole.

I'd rather be an asshole with 5 dollars in my hand that someone else doesn't deserve, though.

You could call it EVEN if you hadn't bid at all and contacted eBay to rat the bastard out. But instead, you wanna do it the hard way.

Why bother?

The guy has 4 feedback. It is quite possible that he doesn't even know he can't charge.

Look, you already admitted that you're an asshole. Quit trying to defend yourself. Even if he didn't know, you should have just told him, not bid on his auction and then try to cheat him.

Now what's your ebay ID? I don't want you ever bidding on my auctions, and I'm sure a lot of other people here don't either.

I'm sure a lot of other people here can follow the rules of ebay.

I never planned on contacting ebay about this, I never planned on contacting paypal. In all seriousness, I wasn't going to.

I was just going to straight up tell him that I'm not paying the fee, and if he doesn't like it file NPB.

Like I said above, you're just trying to save a few bucks and cheat some guy. And you seem proud of it.

I disagree. It is him that is trying to cheat both ebay and paypal. If he doesn't like that they have fees, he shouldn't use them. NO FREE LUNCH.

What does this have anything to do with deserving or not deserving it? The guy wants to charge a fee for his trouble & commissions, you don't agree with it, don't buy it. Someone else will.

Pay the damn fee if his auction lists the fee. It does not matter whether or not Paypal/Ebay have a policy against this. Their policy is bullsh!t to begin with.. They have a business that charges a fee for use and then they try to make it policy that the seller has to always absorb the fee. Why? Because then their business will get more use. Legally, you are bound to the terms of the contract.

Credit card companies also did this to companies and they threatened to not do business with companies if they charged fees. I think credit card companies actually lobbied to get a law passed to force businesses to absorb the fees instead of the consumer.

Like it or not, you agree with the rules of it when you list an item. If you are the one making the money off of ebay, then why the hell should someone else pay the fee?

How's he trying to cheat them? They will be paid for their services.

So now it's a trouble to list an item and make money off it? You people are cracking me up!

Because that's what you agreed to when you entered into a binding contract with the stated terms of the auction.

Admit it - you bid on this specific auction as opposed to any other auction for the same item because you saw an opportunity to scare an additional $5 out of the seller.

You had alternative courses of action that did not involve submitting a fraudulent bid.

Would you be more comfortable if the seller added $5 to shipping/handling? WTF is the difference? At least this guy is being honest about why he's chargin the $5 as opposed to just adding it as a random 'handling' charge.

He's cheating them because I would be paying the fee, not him. I like to buy things on ebay because I don't have to pay a fee to use them, and I like to pay with paypal because I don't have to pay a fee to use it. Now I am. So I guess he's cheating me more than them, but either way, it's not cool.

If you think its crazy, then you're welcome to not bid on the item. He is offering something for sale and he makes the terms. If you do not like those terms, you are under no obligation to buy it. No one is forcing you to bid.

Actually, yes I would.

And ebay makes his terms.

You already stated in this thread that he has 4 feedback so might not be aware of the policy.
But instead of being a nice guy and telling him about it, you decide to lodge a fraudulent bid in the hopes you can strongarm him out of it after the fact.

As I said before - you had alternatives that did not involve lodging a fraudulent bid.
You're trying to take the moral high road here, but guess what: YOU BROKE THE RULES, TOO, when you lodged a bid knowing full well that you did not agree to the terms laid out in the auction!

I hope this guy lets you pay $5 less and sends you a steaming pile of $hit in the mail. 😛

Awww... how mature.

Pot... Kettle...?

What's the point. This is like having a conversation with a rock... that can talk... and continues to tell me that it's not a rock.

Alright guys, Ness's ebay ID is ness1469.

The auction in question

I did email the seller explaining the situation with a link to this thread, but the auction is already closed with Ness as the winner.

To confirm, Ness' ebay ID is ness1469. Make sure to add him to your blocked bidders list.

I bid with about 20 minutes left. What are the odds that in that time, the guy would have gotten the email, discussed it, and changed the policy. The alternative would be to search for another month on what I was looking for. It happens to be something I'm trying to get for a friend's b-day, and that is in two weeks.

If you guys don't like what I did, that's fine. You're more than welcome to ignore me. I've bid on less than 50 items in the 3 years I've been using ebay, so I don't think you'll have to worry about me bidding on your items.

Which is fine by me, because I'd rather not try to help you guys who support this anyway.

If he doesn't want to pay the fees, he shouldn't be using the services.

Wow, you are a serious cvnt.

You are the one saying I have problems, and you are getting into my personal matters?

Grow up.

I bet that's what that poor guy is saying about you. Actually, he'll probably just be immediately dropping to the 2nd up bidder, now that he knows the situation. 😀

The only reason I could possibly see for you to bid on something you clearly feel is a fraud...is so you could screw the guy over by trying to strong arm him like others here are saying.

No wonder sellers just jack up the 'handling charge' instead. Would you refuse to pay the shipping & handling charge if it was clearly advertised as $18 for a small item that likely only cost $7 to ship?

Nobody here advocates breaking the rules.
That's why we're bagging on you. You're just as bad as the seller.
