$14.62 seems very very high. What service are you using? Have you checked the Post Offices rates? FedEx Ground is quite inexpensive too. UPS is usually a whole lot more expensive than any of the others and places like Mailboxes Etc will always double the actual shipping cost.

I live in Oregon, for Christ's sake.. He's in KY. Shipping was 11.62, plus 3$ for bubblewrap and peanuts. He shouldn't have bid if he doesen't like it. It would've been even higher, but I found a box that would work instead of buying one.

He should be thankful I charge actual shipping and don't tack on another few bucks.

The box is 15x12x9 and weighs 2.54lbs. I don't think it's going to get much cheaper. Maybe a couple of dollars, but.. meh. The UPS Store is convienent for me, it's about a mile and a half away.
 

Yeah, ebay people are lame. If they don't like the price, they shouldn't bid. I tell them up front what shipping is.

I tell them that the shipping is non-negligible and that I do not change any aspect of the fixed contract they agreed to once they place their bid.

You hit the nail on the head there. The UPS store is your problem. They charge a lot more than the regular UPS counter. You would've probably been better off sending it Priority Mail with a box that light and the customer would've gotten it in 2 days. It most likely would've been cheaper too.

If you're going to list shipping in your auction, call it fixed shipping and "handling". I've never had a complaint about shipping and handling rates even if they turned out to be double what the actual cost was. Sometimes it's necessary to inflate the shipping cost and lower the price of your item because other sellers seem to set the prices.

i hate shipping costs, not from ebay, but from the big stores. it sucks because i live in Hawaii where everything that is shipped is quite insane, or at least close to it.

I think thats complete bullshit. I don't buy from people on Ebay that sell this way, which basically means I don't buy there very much anymore.

I would rather buy from someone who listed a reasonable price and good shipping. I hate seeing a $4 item with $12 shipping.

this is why i won't buy from egay;and many other online places.
people trying to make $3 on shipping.etc..and varoius other "Handling"charges.

i bought some pens a few years ago,the place charged me $18.shipping and handling charge,
i took the box to the post office and mailed it back,it cost me $3.10,including a return reciept.
i got the money all refunded to my Visa card..

i try to buy stuff here,in the for sale/trade forum. The better traders are fair about shipping costs.
Oh i have My trader references linked in my sig.

Well, you are asking for people to complain then. Tell them in the auction that you will add $3 to the actual shipping price for materials and you probably won't have people complain.

I agree, that's why I charge actual shipping. I don't really understand why the guy is complaining.

It looks like FedEx would be the cheapest though, only 8.41+the $3 for materials.

Even USPS Priority would be 8.55+3.

Bah, I guess I'll ship it fedex.. but I don't know where a fedex place is around here.

Actually they dont charge the same. I went into 2 of them (one in NJ and one here at home in Florida) and both states they charge 10-15% over UPS counter rates plus an additional "convienence" charge...
 
Fvck that guy. I try to charge reasonable rates, considering I pack with a lot of peanuts/proper boxes and such. If he doesn't like it he shouldn't have bid on it

No, you didn't read my post correctly. Here is what I am saying.

Since you are adding extra money ($3 in this case) onto the actual shipping price, tell them that in the auction. Tell them how much extra you will charge for materials, driving to UPS, etc. This way, you are being up front about the shipping costs and handling (materials).

I should get into the habbit of boxing the item up before it goes on eBay, and give West to East coast shipping prices(IE: 5 - 15$ or whatever).. hmm.
