YAET: How do you fit exercise into a busy work schedule?

So my fiancee and I want to start working out, but we both are out of the house from around 7:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night. We figured out the only real time we can exercise is after 6:00 PM at night. What is the best way to fit in dinner and exercise? Should we exercise right when we get home, then make dinner and eat? We have a treadmill and elliptical in the house right now, which we want to start working out with. 😕

Agreed, run or cardio work in the morning will help you through your day and then get home and lift followed by dinner.

I do about 45-60 minutes of high intensity weight lifting every weekday morning before work. I'm out of my hose between 7:30am and 7pm. I still manage to eat 6-7 times a day also. It can be done, you just have to make it part of your lifestyle.

you should really only need at most 30 minutes of cardio a day so i'd say work out when you get home then eat.

if your workouts take a longer time then i recommend making a bunch of food on sunday so that weekday cooking only entails heating food up.

if you can afford it i'd recommend working out during your lunch hour.

My solution is to commute to/from work on my bike. Not everyone can accomplish this, of course, but it's a nice way to kill two birds with one stone if you can swing it.

Waking up in the morning and working out isn't an option, since we are both lazy asses and wouldn't want to get out of bed that early. We both commute via the train, about 20 miles each way, so biking to work isn't an option, and it also gets pretty cold in Chicago during the winter. Working out after we get home seems like the best choice to me, then eating dinner...

My next question as well. Pack a lunch and munch throughout the day so you have your lunch hour free for a quick workout.

I leave the house no later than 6:30. This morning I was slack and didn't wake up until 5:30 but yesterday morning I got up at 4:30 to do weights, then a run. The morning before that was up at 5:00 to do weights. Tomorrow I'll be up at 4:30 for run and weights. I just ABHOR getting home and doing ANYTHING after work, so I like to slack off in the evening. In terms of when I go to bed it's never later than 10:00, almost never later than 9:00, and often around 8:30. I hate being tired at work so I get 7-8 hours/night. I do all excercise out of the house and I have a good home gym setup. If I had to work out at a gym I'd probably just go to the gym immediately after work on the way home and pack some gym clothes and probably something to eat before going.

take into account my gym is 30-40miles away:|

MW:
Gym 5am-630am
Work 9am-3pm
Tutoring 3:30-8~9pm

TTh:
Gym 5am-630am
Work 9am-12pm
Calc2 1pm-320pm
Tutoring T(6-9)/Th(7-9)

I pull it off....*disoriented*

<--feels like he's going to fall over right now😕

thats still better than me. i get back from work around 730, and i probably wont be able to hit the gym till like 8. try to fit that in with studying and all. its crazy man.

That's still better than me. I do a paralegal job, so when I get home at around 9.30 i go to the gym at 10.00pm (well that is on days that I'm not feeling sick). Some nights i get back around 5 am, after having got to work the morning before at 9.30am, so I don't work out, but if i get back early enough the next day, i'll hit up the gym. That and studying to get into grad school is tough.

That's even better than me. I work two jobs. One is 7:4 and the other is 4:30 to 12:30 am. Then, I ge home at 2 am (live 90 min from the second job), have to drive to work at 6:30 and, with eating supper and putting the kids to bed I have only 45 minutes to sleep if I want to work out.

I work 6:30am - 3:15 pm M-F and then again at 5pm - 10pm at another job 3-5 times a week. I get my butt out of bed at 4:45am every morning to do cardio and lift from about 3:30 to 4:15 between jobs. There IS time to do it, you just have to be dedicated to it.

I'm work out at lunch 3 times a week. My wife has a membership to the gym, but won't go. So I just go by myself at lunch.

I believe that you get more benefit by working out before eating. Everytime I try to go after eating, I feel like crap.... I eat a bowl of cereal and a fruit for breakfast, and then work out at 12, and come back and eat lunch. IN fact, I'm trying to eat lunch right now, and it's almost 2 pm..... BTW you'll find that a workout destroys your appetite for lunch, so pack light 🙂
