I've also read about the G35 actually being pretty speedy in its own right. A what.. 5.5-ish 0-60 time? It's been a bit since I read the stats, but for a luxury sedan, the performance is pretty good.

Like I said, I'd probably go for the G35 if there was a closer Infiniti dealer. I may not want to spend $7k more than an Altima, but I look at it this way. I gotta live with that thing for at least 6 years or so (typical trade in time for a car), I might as well get something that I will enjoy for all those years rather than something I will like, but wish I had gotten the better one with the nicer features (such as 6-disc changer in Altima vs 9GB HDD in G35).

The g35 is the internet forum's choice car of the century it seems. But for the money i'd rather spend a couple g's more and get the bmw 335i twin turbo, gobs more power and easy to modify to boot.

To ElFenix: despite their similarities of 2 doors, 300 bhp, and RWD, I see the Mustang GT and the G35 coupe as 2 very different cars. The Mustang is more muscle-oriented, the G35 more luxury-oriented. I've driven both, and prefer the G35 (except for that damned exhaust drone, whereas the Mustang has one of the most wonderful exhaust sounds on earth), but OTOH the G35 costs $10k more too. You get what you pay for but you're paying for it too. They're very comparable from a performance standpoint, with an edge to the Mustang IMO in that regard.

As for reliability, Nissan is far from the shining beacon of Japanese reliability. So I'd say they'd come out about comparable there are well.

edit: and yeah, I love the 335i too. But it's not just a few G's more than a G35 anymore than a G35 is just a few G's more than a Mustang. The MSRP on the 335i might say $40k, but that's stripped. Good luck actually getting one for less than $50k.

Right....of course you get everything with the G35. But if you prefer speed and care less for comfort and luxury...why blow the extra on G35? Its a $7k difference for some leather seat and HID and better speaker...etc (sh*t that you don't need when you only want to go fast).

i dunno about anyone else, but i care something about stuff other than speed. comfort is good (my current car seats were designed for someone 5'8" and 140 lbs... and the steering wheel isn't in the center... nor are the drivers' armrests comfortable - one isn't even usable as it's too far back) not being a rattletrap in a year is good... a stereo that can be turned up so you can hear it on the highway and it not buzz is good.

i'd be getting a pretty loaded up mustang. so, leather and all that. and what i mean by front speaker is that hideous grille they put over it. maybe that was just protection for the auto show, i hadn't noticed it before.

edit 2: aftermarket electric spoiler-type sunroof ~$1000?

You know my answer...the GT much more fun even though if I had to get a luxary car a G35 would certainly be on the top of my list to test drive.

BTW just because a car is built in Japan does not mean it is a benefit.

It's a better all around car, very balanced in all fields.

It's more money but you get more as well.

If you don't want an everyday driver and just a weekend car for a good price, get a mustang, if you want a daily driver and a BETTER overall car, get the G35.

I actually had the same choice. I chose the Mustang. I'm glad I did.

Yes, you lose some on the interior, but I actually prefer the minimalistic approach of the Mustang. If you're a bigger guy, you'll also feel much more comfortable in the Mustang. I'm 6'5" or so and my head was rubbing the ceiling in the G35. I greatly prefer the look of the Mustang over the G35. Some of my neighbors have the G35 and it just gets boring to look at after a while. The Mustang is fun and it looks and sounds beautiful. I got the red leather interior and the top of the line stereo system and still paid $9k less than the Infiniti dealer quoted me.
