i drove my uncle's highlander today (2003). uhhhh, im not impressed with toyota's interior at all. power was lacking and engine was unrefined. steering response was good but it's one of those cars that you can't really feel the road. the car only had like... 400 miles on it. my uncle was like "isn't it quiet" and i was like... yeah (NOT REALLY). maybe it still hasn't broken in yet but still. granted, i am a nissan fanboi BUT even a honda beats toyota cars by a mile, handling, engine, power, etc.

please toyota fanbois... explain your toyota fetish and why you love them so much. supra is one of the few toyota cars that i actually like (landcruiser and a couple of others also)

You can't view a toyota objectively when you are a nissan fanboi. And vice versa.

sure you can.

There's a 99 Camry and a 99 Maxima in our driveway. And I like them both in different ways.

generally, I prefer driving the Maxima. But when I'm tired and its late at night and I just wanna get home from wherever, I'd prefer to be in the Camry.

Personally I dind't think the Highlander was all that special. I didn't like how there was that plastic finish over the electronic compoents (HVAC/Radio) in the interior.

I do like the quietness of Toyotas though..they have very little windnoise.

I'm a toyota fanboy (boi seems.....gay) and LOVE my Tundra but would ditch it in a split second for a Nissan Titan. Oh holy crap those are NICE.

I'd venture to say that many of us who like Toyotas are looking more for their reliability than their performance. That said, my '96 Camry handles very well, has enough power (with just the 4), and is much bigger inside than comparable Hondas (especially headroom). And, of course, has been absolutely reliable transportation. Aside from routine oil, antifreeze, brake pad changes, I've only needed to replace the water pump in over 80k miles. To each his own... :)

Dude, you are judging Toyota to only one car that they make, the highlander. Try driving the new Thundra, Seqouia (spelling) and other models. I would say myself too that the highlander isn't really a nice looking suv.

Buy a Toyota and you might as well weld the hood shut, they just plain last.

I loved my 1988 Celica GT. I drove it for about 100k miles in 5 years (HS and early college day), and only had to replace the brakes, muffler (salt on the roads got to it), water pump and timing belt (didn't catch the failing water pump in time). Wonderful car.

I traded it in for a 2000 Civic EX, and have to admit that I felt more stable in my Celica when going around corners at a high speed, and that I had a bit more of a pickup when going off the line.

My dad also has a 1990 4x4 SR5 pickup that we've have for close to 10 years now, and even after damaging the engine (we lost a cylinder), it ran well until we could afford to get a new engine for it. After driving an 1992 Nissan 4x2, I'd have to say that I'd rather have a Toyota pickup over a Nissan anyday.

*sigh* If I could afford to, I'd buy a 1997-2002 4 Runner and enjoy life in that (since they basically used the same frame of the pickup trucks), but I'm stuck with my Honda for the time being.

I think it has something to do with the fact that you can drive them 300,000+ miles with relatively few repairs beyond typical maintenance...same goes for honda

Season 3, episode 5 and 6 I think of Top Gear

They take a toyota pickup, drive it down a flight of stairs, drive into a tree, smudge up against a few walls, drive to the beach, tie it down and wait for the flood to come. It only get worse from here on, weeeeeellll worth watching :D

edt. The point was to see how much they could abuse the car and still have it working

Save up enough $$ for the TRD Supercharger too. It sounds SEXY.

I had a 1980 model 4X4 pickup and it was handed down to me from my dad after he had it for nearly 10 years. I drove the darn thing for nearly 5 more years and then decided to get rid of it. When I sold it it had 250k miles on it. The guy I sold it to drove another 50k miles on it and he sold it to another person I know who put about 100k more on it. I lost track with the owners after that, but I did see this truck pass me the other day. It looked rough, but was still driving.

Tell that to the thousands of early V6 tundra owners with blown headgaskets and see what they have to say.

We had an old 80's Toyota pickup that last forever! We also has a .... man what were they called, the little hatchback ones, that thing lasted forever too! Then we got a used '92 Celica, which is now my car ( when I'm home, ie not at schoool ) It's got 260+ km on it and still runs fine. We also got Toyota's Sienna minivan new in 1998 which hasn't had any signs of problems so far. And I think when I have enough money, I'll probally get another Toyota.
