Yeah I figured that, so they were limited to what just the 98's? They are pretty nice looking, I think I would like thme better on a darker color though. But they still look nice.

I am actually kinda leaning toward the maxima. My friend used to have one and he said they are sweet cars. They seem ot offer exactly what i want, just not sure if I can get one in my price range. I will have to talk to my dad he says he knows a guy that can get cars at dealer auctions.

Why is this one so cheap? Edmunds says its worth over 10,000.

Actually there is a 01 Sentra with 35K going for $10K on the sticker at Tansky Toyota. (pretty sure of the details) I'll see if I can find it.

EDIT: Yeap. Search the used cars http://www.tansky.com/

hmmm, usually the SE models have the 5 spoke 16 inch alloy rims and the gxe and gle have the honeycomb 15 inch ones but maybe that changed in 98.

from looking at this picture it looks like either that car is a gxe or they swapped the rims from a gxe and put them on a se

Yeah actually after I looked harder at some of those pics I don't think it has the SE's signature white face guages. It is kinda hard to see, but they look dark to me.

That looks like a GXE as it is pictured.
The Maxima SE's came with the 5 or 6 spoked rims. GXE had the ugly ones, and the GLE had the more refined, solid looking one.
The one pictured looks like a hubcap.

I would look around for a decent low mileage Maxima if you can find one private party. You could probably pick up a 2000 for around $9-10k (maybe you could stretch your budget for the right car??). I have a 2003 Maxima (same as 2000 just with a 3.5l V6, HID headlights and different tail lights), it's a great car, very roomy, powerful and fun to drive.

Heck I would be happy if I could find and average to low mileage 97 for the 6500-7500 range. But I want an SE or maybe a GLE, I don't want the GXE model.

Sweet I just got a letter in the mail from equifax. I had them disputing a few things on my credit file. The main one being some late payments on my best buy credit card. I don't deny these, but it was not completely my fault. I spent several hours on several days trying to get best buy to fix it, but they refuse since technically it was my fault. But thats a long story, so i won't get into it. Unfotunately best buy must keep good records, so they proved that one was correct.

But I also had a couple of accounts saying they were closed but still being listed on the report. Not sure if they are supposed to stay there for a certain period or what, but they deleted them from my account. But then the other big one I hope will have a big impact on my score was a school loan I had. It wasn't a government loan it was through sallie mae. I originally had 1 but then got another one and they just added the 2 together. Well my report was showing both loans still open for the full amounts. Luckily it was not counting anything like late payments or anything. SInce I wasn't making any payments to one of the loans since it was combined into another one. But it was adding a couple thousand dollars to my outstanding debt. That has now been removed.

Plus I already received my state tax refund, when i get my federal I will pay off my 3000.00 credit card bill. Then in about a month or so I will be ready for sure to get a car. I probablly could try to get the loan now, but I wan't to qualify for the lowest rate I can and preferablly without a cosigner.

Plus after looking around so far I have yet to find the car i want. I want to give the maxima a test drive and if i like ti then I will most likely get one of those. But I can't find any I like on autotrader or in the paper right now, so I guess I will just keep my eyes open.

One more question guys. This one has more to do with the loan and buying rather then the car.

Should I go to a bank, such as the one I have my checking account at, or should I go through one of the online lenders?

Okay so I have more then one question. If I apply for one of these loans and maybe get denied or a crappy rate how will that effect my credit score. I mean that one extra inquiry isn't gonna do much if anything to it right?

And last but not least, I will continue to look, but it seems to me that there are a lot more maximas at better prices in Flordia rather then here in Ohio. My dad happens to live in florida and I think he said he knows a guy that can get in to the dealer auctions. Are there usually any restrictions on the loans? Like do they have to be used in the state they were applied for in? I guess that wouldn't apply to online lenders. How would that effect me if I did get a car purchased at an auction. I am assuming that the auction would not accept a loan check with my name and stuff on it since I am not an authorized dealer. Anybody done this before, any way to do it?

Also one more thing, after looking on the lender sites, like capital one, eloan and lending tree. I noticed they ask if you plan to buy from a dealer or private party. what do I answer for this if I don't know yet?

1998 Nissan Maxima

Thats a link to a local nissan dealer. It is for a a 1998 Nissan Maxima. Its not listed on the site, but I am assuming it is GXE trim, but it does have a rear spoiler and alloys. Although the alloys do not appear to be stock nissan rims. The sticker price on the car is 9990.00. I emailed them asking for thier cheapest quote and they quoted me 8248.00, how does that seem for a price?

I am having trouble locating a 1997 Maxima SE around here that is not in white or champagne color(not a big fan of those colors). So I have kinda started looking more at the GXE and GLE models as well. ALthough I much prefer the flash of the SE and the firmer suspension.

Also can anyoen tell me if this is what the stock guages in the Maxima SE look like at night? I got that picture off cardomain and I just wasn't sure if they were the stock SE guages or aftermarket.

Why, are japanese automatics really that bad? I mean I have some experience with a manual transmission, so getting back into one wouldn't be to hard for me. And I'm sure it would take a while, but I suppose my girlfriend would eventually get the hang of it. I just don't see the point though. I mean this will be a daily driver car. Mainly used for back and forth to work in traffic with a bunch of stop lights. SO an auto would just be that much easier.

I don't know what they're talking about. Honda/Acura has a couple of bad auto trannies but the majority (in my experience) of japanese auto's are great. My camry from 93 is still running strong and my gf's honda from 89 is too.

Holy crap, from the opinions of anand members as well as my mother all saying erie insurance was usually cheap, I went ahead and got a quote from them. First of all the process took like 3 days, seems little too long to wait just for a quote, but no big deal. They finally called back today. For a 22 year old male, and a 24 year old female(she had a speeding ticket 2 years ago, only infraction on our records), and liability on 2 10+ year old cars they want over 1000.00/6 months, I am currentlly paying about hafl that and about ready to go with nationwide at a rate closer to 350.00 maybe less.

I can't beleieve how the prices can be so much differant, its crazy. This will be a big help though, once I get my insurance switched I will have more money to save for the occasional repair. JUst got to get my credit card paid off(which i will do later this week) then get my school loan taken care of(long story, but do to my school closing, I am getting a 8,000 dollar loan paid off for me by the government I guess). That will give my credit rating a nice boost. Then I will go qualify for a loan(actually I was thinking of trying this now, I have found a car i want and would like to get it, would it effect me negatively if I applied now and didn't quite get the rate or amount I want, and then apply again when all my stuff is paid off?) The only thing I can think is that would add another inquiry to my credit report, how bad is that? I can't imagine it would hurt too much. Just checking.
