YacT: Reasons not to get a Nissan 350Z

I know a lot of reasons to get one now I need some reasons not to. Best I've come up with so far are:

It's a two seater.
It's kinda expensive.
No storage space.
I'll put my eye out.

Also looking at the RX-8, the Mazda 6s, Scion Tc, and the Acura TSX.

I don't think I've talked to a single person who's bought a 350Z or RX-8 who didn't regret it. Underperforming, overpriced POS's that can't even fit a golf bag.

So far we have brand, poor handling, and competitor for the win. Also whatever I get will be have an automatic transmission. Yes, I will hand in my man card now. 🙁

All I need is a car to zip around town in. I live 200ft from campus and 1/4mi from downtown. Whatever I end up with will be it for the next 5-7 years unless I trade it some time down the line. I'm also half way through college.

And well you should. May as well buy a Dodge Caravan IMO.

RX-8 was same speed around Top Gear's test track and is a much better car all around.

The automatic version is sloooooooow... RPMs are capped lower because the automatic tranny can't handle 9000 RPM shifts, and a rotary is nothing without its revs.

Not that buying an auto 350Z is much of an improvement.

In that case, get a lightly used Vette.

Very little hood space fro further modifications? I think that Stillen or something SC kit requires a new hood.
Also, it's pretty heavy. >3200lbs coupe and >3400lbs for convertible.
otherwise ti's a fine car for what it was meant to be.

Oh and the WRX STi and EVO VIII are in the same price range. Better drivier's car, better handling, better space, better speed(if yuo do a fast drop clutch launch ad 5000rpm, and with great shifting the evo should do 0-60 in 4.6-4.7seconds). Though you might have to sacrifice some style points(lets face ti, the evo, though much better than a lancer sint going to win any styling awards or the awe and respect that a pininfarina car would).

Sounds like no car would be a better option in that situation. Otherwise, would just buy some old beat up Honda for reliability and good gas mileage.

Well the Mitsubishi Eclipse V6 would be a good choice for you. The 350z/WRX STI/Evo are really more weekend track cars. You just cant take full advantage of it's fun legally in public. The eclipse is more pf a sporty touring coupe which should rarely be tracked if ever. It is a lot more forgiving, a lot easier to drive on long trips and can be fun when driving under legal limits with an auto nonetheless.

Best reason: Its a Nissan

You're a tool.

It's got transmission problems and wheel wear problems due to the differential.

Awww sorry if I hurt your feelings. But that doesn't change the fact that I am right.

Yeah, a 300ZX twin turbo would be sexy.

However, from what little you've mentioned about what you're likely driving habits would be... you'd never get to uncork the sports car. To be blunt, I think it would be stupid to buy one. Get a Civic or a Corolla or something like that; they've got decent in-town zip, which is all you're going to be using Mr. "My longest commute is a 1/4 mile." 😉

I didn't say thats my longest commute. My friends and my family live on the other side of town. 😛 I also take trips to the beach some times, thats oh say 287 miles with a decent chunk on I-95. 😀
