keep in mind that the higher priced insurance states are usually "no fault" states. That basically means there is more medical coverage and a much different coverage that other states.

3k for six months?! :Q

is your driving record that bad? I would check other insurance companies first.

My driving record is perfect.

is this your first vehicle by yourself? if so, then that is why it's so high. after 1 or 2 yrs of good driving, no tickets, no points and good payment record your rates will come down.

I guess I'll have to get a used car.

B4 I bought my new Accord Progressive wanted $2000 every 6 months on a new car. I'm paying $788 a year under the family.

I don't want to... To do this someone would have to cosign my car. This is not possible. Plus, my credit's, to quote the dealer, "about as good as its gonna get for someone your age". I qualified for 2.9% financing.

$1800 for the year from statefarm for me.. bought a 3 under my name. if my parents bought it, insurance would have been cheaper. but, well, i wanted the car under my name for various reasons.

i live in philly.. .when i quote for a new car or used car... mine is 4-5k for 6 months.. and like 1200$ per month for minimum.. its retarded...

I'm already getting quotes from other insurance companies today. Any suggestions?

Also... Do you guys like the Cobalt? What vehicle do you recommend for about 13K new?

Edit: My driving record is perfect. I've never even gotten a parking ticket.

All state quote: $2540/6 Mo

Geico is expensive insurance for people with bad driving records and bad credit. If you have a clean record and good credit, State Farm will be a lot cheaper.

My insurance through State Farm on my old Cavalier was like $750 for 6 months when I was 20.

i work for an insurance co and for some reason, the colbalt is very pricy, especially for a young driver. just like a ford focus is very expensive. it has to do with crash ratings and the more compact a car may be makes the prices higher

That's strange... the Cavalier, of course, was the Cobalt's predecessor. The Cavalier had very reasonable insurance rates, even for younger drivers.

I like State farm also they will give you a discount with your perfect driving record too. I pay

780/year for 2K4 Impala LS.

This post is useless without knowing what options you chose. What deductible, with or without threshold, that sort of thing.

Who do you work for? See if NJM will take you. You won't find a cheaper quote in the state.

get a beat up old honda for $5k till you turn 25. all males under 25 get hit with a premium.

you also save even more since you dont need collision insurance on that old Honda.

dont go bashing no fault...
Manitoba has no fault public insurance at the rates are the lowest in all of canada! I had a 01 Accent GSi and was paying about 1200CND/yr for insurance (about 850 USD at the time). Now my 98 Intrepid is about 75/mo

For comparison, I am 25, living in Atlanta, and pay around $650 per 6 months via USAA.

I also have a near-perfect driving record, with one speeding ticket for going 52 downhill in a 40 zone.

I'm on my parents plan right now, but when I get my own policy through USAA, it will be $500 every 6 months. I'm 20.

Geico quoted me some insane number as well, on a new car. When I bought my 05 Tucson, they were like 4500/6mo. I pay $100 a month now under my mom's insurance. geico is a friggen ripoff.

My new Avalanche costs me $900 yr for full coverage in Alberta.

But then again, I am 32.

Found a 2002 Chevy prizm for 8k and it only saved my 300! Geico quoted me at 2200.

I'm just going to have to wait and pay cash for a car. I currently have 2K so it should only take me a few months.

New cars are a waste of money. Get an old honda civic, or toyota, or better yet a vw that uses diesel. If you don't have $6k to burn on insurance, go with an older car. Use one of those fancy search engines to find out which cars cost less to insure. Buying a car that is less then five years old when you aren't 25 yet is always a bad idea fiscally. It is always cheaper to maintain an old car than to insure a new one provided the frame hasn't rusted all the way through. A well maintained older car can be just as reliable as a new car.
