3500? Thats a great deal for the Galant.

I own(ed) a '99 Galant ES-V6, it was an amazing car. Great performance, great handling, I loved the car.
I notice that you don't own it anymore.

Not by choice.

You actually just gave me ANOTHER point for the Galant. Thanks!

Look at that accident...pretty bad? Not a scratch on me. I'd say its a pretty good car for safety too.
That's not nearly a bad accident.

And sorry, but Mitsus are terrible from a reliability standpoint. Might as well by a Chrysler. 5 years is nothing to a car. If the car had any problems at all in that time, you should really wonder about it.

Oh ok, the 3 times the car flipped after hitting the divider head on, and then skidding awhile on the drivers side, that wasn't a bad accident. Not at all. Just a fender bender even.

by the way here are some info on edmunds

99' galant

99' ford taurus

99' altima

99' 626

99' malibu

99' alero

i'd say the crappiest used japanese brand is mazda. with the price range of around $5000, there is really not much of a choice except the galant or the more expensive altima, as you can see the budget offerings from ford, chevy, and even olds aren't that great.

99' civic DX

and as you can see, a civic is a bit expensive, being a compact and also a stripped out DX (optional AC, no cassette/CD, 5-speed stick...)

so there. look for an altima or a galant. they are good budget cars that will probably last you a couple of years.

The altima will also be pretty affordable. They don't tend to hold their resale very well either, at least that particular style.

What "Trouble" does the Civic engine have?

im not sure but it make a wierd noise and it takes a while when you change gears, also the muffler don't sound to good.

I'd find out what that "weird noise" is, could be something as simple as a plastic cover rubbing on a belt, or as serious as valvetrain problems. And it takes a while to change gears? I'm guessing it's an auto, and if it takes an abnormally long amount of time to change gears, I'd try flushing the fluid and refilling it with the correct stuff. However, if the tranny really does have a problem, I'd stay far far away

I think a 99 galant with 0 problems is a much better deal.

Sounds like my old 93. Needed a new belt, refilled tranny fluid, and a new midpipe. Total cost, CDN$380. 😛

Take it to a mechanic or shop you trust and have them take a peek.
