So Mill, you think I ought to race these guys? ;)

On what, your superbike? Do you like taking candy away from babies? :p

Not if he was up against a 900HP blown Viper:)

Um, actually, yes. I wouldn't be stupid enough to just do a roll on with my Hayabusa :p

Ooops, forgot that it was rolling. Yeah, the bike might just have a bit of an advantage starting from a dead stop.

Man I haven't seen you on the board for a looooooong time! You used to have the F-Body V6 right? I remember getting into debates with you back in the day...all in good fun.

Did you ever that Vette?

nah, got me an 00 SVT Lightning, more my style than a vette anyway ;)

Woah, weren't you a big GM fanboy back in the day? Thought you had a SS or a WS6.....I guess you saw the light like John did :)

Yeah it strange, John and I both live in the same town, both of us had pontiac f-body's, then both of us traded them in for black Lightnings :)

sort of the wrong board for car stuff...10's are very possible today with the right car and right 'checkbook'. Streetable cars are sometimes in the 8's...of course usually boost-controlled and of unlimited finances.

WTF is 1/8 mile stuff?...l thought that was the Honda crowd.

In the 1/4 my worst car, the Saturn turned 15.7's I think 80 something, my VW stock engine-wise other than a chip 15.2, my 88 Mustang GT was in the 13-14 range, my 66 GT probably a 13-13.5 car traction limited, I never ran it at the track, but never lost either...none of these cars were 1/4 mile built, I am more interested in handling. On my 88 I traded the southside rear lower arms for stockers even. I am at sea level though.

My next project (which I will start once I start working again :) ) will be in the 13's with 12's possible (with a much shorter longevity).

Lots of tracks don't run the quarter anymore, due to insurance limitations, among other things.

Think about it: You can now build a bracket rail that runs as fast as Top Fuel dragsters did 30 or so years ago.
Back then, pretty much nobody had a legitimate street car that could run 10's....at least not one you could actually drive anywhere on a regular basis.....anyone who says they did is lying or doesn't know what they're talking about.
The only way to get a full-bodied car that quick back then was very high compression, steep gears, the whole nine yards.
There were no 500+cid crate motors with 700+HP on pump gas, even on the pump gas they had back then.

Technology is a wonderful thing, but one drawback is that tracks that used to run the quarter, now have to run the eighth since most anyone can build a really, really fast car.

My local track, CA speedway, doesn't allow cars that run faster than 10s for insurance reasons they say. :\

The last time I went, there was some I think el camino. It shot off the line faster than anyone else that night, but then coasted after about half the way, to a 10 something. :Q For his last run, he ran flat out and ran comfortably 9s and then the announcer told him he can't run any more. :D

back 'then' it wasn't horsepower limiting the cars, it was tires mostly and suspension design. Getting 500 HP out of a 455 is a piece of cake....getting to 700 would take a blower or wild cams/headwork....crate motors are just a guaranteed solution.

Today alot of the muscle cars are running 1 to 2 secs faster in the 1/4 bone stock just because they are on modern rubber.

The whole 10 sec car thing though is true. Most people with one (NOS guys aside) would end up rearending someone daily.

That is common I think most tracks require the start of extra safety gear in the 11's....by the 10's they want at least a 4 point roll cage, helmeted driver, harness, etc. It gets expensive plus you will more than likely not have a street car anymore. 10's and lower are dangerous runs, all it takes is some crap on the track to pop a 90 degree turn and head for the stands, or into the other driver.

I autoX... not to mention my car isn't actually set up to drag race. FWD and over 200ft/lbs to the wheels on the dyno @3k don't mix do very well.

Still... I'll prolly take my car to the track to get some timeslips this season.
