Could be worse, a guy I knew died last week doing the same thing (wasn't wearing his seatbelt in a torrential downpour, smart move).

Am I the only one who notices in most threads here, if the first few replies are negative comments, everyone else follows like sheep? And if the first few replies are like "hope everything is ok" everyone else follows like sheep?

That's always irked me about the folks here...just to add to the trend: hope you're ok man.

I've noticed that as well. Identical situations, replies depend entirely on what everyone else has said. People are too afraid to speak their mind if it's not in line with the majority. It also depends a lot on the popularity of the member... Wduaqnug posted a thread about ridiculously expensive weddings a long time ago, got mostly responses saying how stupid it is to waste that kind of money on a wedding. Mill posted the same thing a while later, everyone told him to mind his own business, people can do what they want with their money.

I was driving to work this morning. It was raining kinda heavy, so the roads were like ice. I took a turn a little too quickly, lost traction. Went over a curb and hit a wooden power pole. Not totaled, buy did some nice damage

-Front left tire popped
-front right rim bent, tire possibly bad as well.
-Right headlight bezel broken
-Hood dented
-Front facsia broken
-engine bracket bent.

I'm probably looking at 2 grand in repairs, because I'm a total NOOBTARD. FVCK! The car is still drivable, but I'm on the spare at the moment. Hopefully the regular wheel (the one that I just got a new rim for 3 weeks ago!) will be fine

Goddamnit, I wish I didn't have to learn EVERYTHING through experience. It always costs too much in the end.

doing a turn at 50mph in the rain = more retarded.

Captain Obvious and his sidekick, Oblivious Boy, strike again. I realized I was an idiot. My problem is, I need to learn from experience. Usually from bad experience.

So how did you not realize that going 50 around a turn would not be a bad idea especially in the rain? There is a reason why people always say to slow down during rain especially during the first one. Oil left behind from other passing cars will be mixed in with the water which makes it that much more slick on the road.

You know what, it's probably a good thing it happened to you. I drove around when I was 17 like a cocky little arsehole until I put $1500 in damage to my mom's car. It's been 6 years now and I've got a near perfect (1 speeding ticket that was kinda BS) driving record and have avoided more than one accident that would have been the other person's fault. You'll be more careful from now on and it'll probably save you from a more serious accident down the road.

I have seen essentially the same two posts go completely different directions...

Well, I checked the damage out again at lunch. It APPEARS that the damage is mainly cosmetic...the right headlights brackets are toast, same with the facsia. Some of the bumper brackets are gone too. There's a small dent in the right front rim, along with a nice cut in the right tire (getting that replaced today)

My dad e-mailed me, said that I can pick up the other tire on the way home...it was too badly cut to fix, so I got a new one.

50 Kilometers per hour. about 30 Miles per hour. Not really that fast when you think about it, and I was slowing down. I just hydroplaned right into the curb.

That makes a whole hell of a lot of difference. But....dont' break and turn at the same time. That's a big nono, especially in bad weather. You have Anti-Lock breaks, right?

By the way, glad you're alright.
