ummmm... no such thing as left side and right side tires.

You have to have them mounted correctly on the wheel.

Yes, there are such things as left and right side tires. They're called asymetrical, as in they aren't identical. High performance tires are usually like this.

Mounting the tire backwards = opposite

As in, ASE Certified.

Now that I have a new vehicle that's under warranty for 10 years, I'm hoping any kind of work will get done at a dealership.

It doesn't take ASE certification to change a tire.

It seems to me that the OP's problem is that (IIRC) VW/Audi uses hubcentric wheels. In order to make the wheels sit flush to the hub, you steadily tighten down all 5 lugs in the proper star pattern. As you tighten each lug in turn, the wheel will eventually flush to the hub. On the final tightening turn, it is crucial to torque the lugs to the proper specification, and then to re-torque them 2-3 days (and roughly 100 miles) later as a precaution.

Tires that are designed to roll forward in one particular direction only (usually for more efficient rainwater shedding) and fit only on one side of the vehicle are known as "directionals". The proper side and rolling direction will be marked on the outside sidewall of the tire.

Scissor jacks suck :p

yes there are.. they're called directional tires.. you cant mount a forward rotating tire that would normally be on the right side of the car on to the left.. it would be rotating in the direction opposite of what it's supposed to

I thought we already covered the tires being directional. Some are. I can take a picture of my directional tires when I get home if it would make anybody happy. You can tell by the arrow on them, and the fact that they say LEFT and RIGHT on them.

You take that tire, remount it to another rim the other way and put it on the opposite side.
Is that hard to understand?

[/quote]They're still directional :) As an aside, I think that the specs of a tire are written on only the outside...not sure though.

Cheapest H rated I can find! Actually my new tires are not directional, but I still have a pair of directional Vs, that came with the cars when I bought them (each car has two Vs and two cheapy Hs).

No offense to gay guys who can put a wheel on of course.

Ok seriously now, call road side service. Or better yet, PM ribbon13, it seems to know everything.

my VW can burn a lot of cars. the 1.8T can be pretty damn quick, esp when you're pushing 15 PSI w/ the turbo. it doesn't have the stock antenna, so it doesn't look goofy. lowered suspension looks very good.

All of my tires are identical on both inside and outside. I have had directional tires (nokian hakkapilita) taken off the rims, mounted the other way, and rotated to the other side.

Directional tires can be on either side of the car. The only exception I see is if you have partial directional tread. Like a small piece of the tread on the left half of the tire is directional, and the rest is not (green diamond tires). Even then, if you remount all of them on the rims and rotate them, they will all match up properly.

So the fact that the tread is directional doesn't matter, it will still rotate in the proper direction no matter which side you put it on.
