Ditto. Buy a S13, get an rb25det(with fmic, boost controller, hardpipes, etc). Get Tein HA coils, get a LSD, get Z32 brake/5lug conversion, get some nice tires and some other misc. For ~13k you will have a car that out accelerates, out handles and costs less than vettes, porshes, f-bodys, cobras, supras, etc etc.

can you show me single s13 with 13k in it that will do the above...?
I think you're pulling stuff outta your ass... Stock shocks and whatever name springs wont do much, unless you are on a a perfectly flat plane, youd be lucky to get.85 on a skid pad... Also most s13s with the swaps run high 12s, so any old 5.0 mustang with 13k in it will rape it... But the 240sx will look 10x better than 80s mustang...plus go nissan anyway

<-owns 300zx

hmmmm I don't even own a Nissan and I know that Tein HA 'COILOVERS' included the spring and strut/shock in one unit....they aren't the typical 'whateverSPEED' bolt on collar for a stock strut and shock.

I like my Dakota, it's the first car that I can really slam around and expect it to live.

But if you REALLY want to have fun, get a $1000-2000 beater and drive it for a year. You won't care about door dings, scratches, dents, or even graphitti!

I didn't care for the 1.8T but a friend of mine had a 95 or 96 vr6 gti and that car was a definite badass. It handled like it was on rails and in 4th gear one time he was in his gti (he claims it was 4th anyway) and I was in my dad's 95 maxima GXE in 3rd giving it all it had and he was sticking with me behind me.

yea the older gen GTI's are definately faster....lot less weight and almost same bhp. but the older ones look ugly. the newer one's are a lot refined. i have a friend who drives a 330 who was impressed with how refined the interior of my car is

i'm surprised no one suggest just getting a beater, i'm sure you are probably very responsible, but what you want in a car can be a bit dangerous in an inexperience driver, you are still in school, so i'm guessing you have at most 2 years of driving experience under your belt, in a car that can do crazy things, you'd be tempted to do crazy things which generally isnt' good till you get a bit older and understand ur limits. get a beater so you dont' have to worry about it and just gain experience driving.

He said high reving and fast, not handles like sex.

Aren't these cars FWD? All the mods in the world won't make a FWD handle like sex.

You can pick up an s13 for less than $2k, drop car off at Mckinneys for a complete rb25 swap for $8k, and have $3k left over for goodies.

Or you can pick up a nice 97-98 240SX STOCK for $10-13k.

Or do what everyone does. Pick up an S13 and drop an SR in there and for under $6k, you got yourself a 13-14s car.

Another DSM vote... it's been long established on ATOT that the 2 cheapest cars to mod in the aftermarket for some REAL speed are Talons, Eclipses, and Lasers OR Mustangs.

Since Mustangs are ruled out, DSM comes in as a second choice. Since you're young, it's best to start out with a nice near stock car anywho. I'd rather not think about a 300+hp monster 13second car in the hands of a young driver. Too many young DSM owners ruin their cars that way.

Even a rare Galant VR4 is an option though I'd rather stick to a 1st generation (90-94) DSM without the fancypants rear steering.

Used turbo sports cars are a great value... an MR2 Turbo would also be an EXCELLENT choice as despite their age, they'll be faster than any Honda people are throwing at you. The rare Celica GT4 (aka the All-Trac in the states) which also has AWD and turbo can be done right as well.

I own a very lightly modded and quite reliable 2nd gen DSM with high mileage and it's got decent power.

Yep. This is the one. Superior handling, superior shifting, superior interior to almost all the honda, acura, toyota options in that range.

I meant s13+13k, meaning 5k left over.

An RBed 240 runs 12s with just a boost controller and a LSD. I guarentee you will be in the low 11's with FMIC, hardpipes, 3.75" DP, bigger injectors and some other misc stuff. I am not talking out of my ass, I have friends who have done this, and are running these times.

I am not saying the 240 is the best option for a drag car, because with an independant rear suspension, it certainly isnt an ideal platform; BUT they can be made very quick whilst retaining lots of reliability. I have 3 friends with 11 second 1g DSMs. Only 1 of the 3 has got there for under 10k.

A fast car can be made out of a lot of different platforms. The 240 is a great choice because not only does it have the ability to be fast on the strip, but it can tear it up on the track, AND be reliable.

Plus, if 10-13k is too rich for your blood, drop in a SR and go with an entry level suspension like Tein S-tech springs and KYB AGX shocks. You can easily have a 13 second car for 5K on top of the purchase price.
