It's just that we're all former Honda/Nissan/Toyota owners AND car enthusiasts who know from personal experience just which Japanese manufacturer makes the best Japanese sedan. That's all. :)

Shame you don't like the Legacy's redesign. I personally love it.

But, since you hate it so much, I'd go with the Mazdaspeed 6.

I'm guessing the HB is the "5-door"? I didn't even really look at that one...

yes it's the 5-dr. I didn't consider a 5-dr at first coz i had a pre-formed image of a hatchback sedan. But when i saw it i loved it. The only thing that i can easily tell a 5-dr from a 4-dr is that the 5-dr has a rear window wiper.

Just a headup, the Acura is going to cost much more than the 6s and insurance will cost mroe as well. Acura makes great cars, i just don't like their exterior design.

I assumed the 5-door would have a much different looking rear...boy was I mistaken.

If I liked the Subaru design it'd be a different story, but alas...

I hate the look of the STi's -- useful, but really, really ugly. However, I think that the one on the Legacy is very tasteful.

It's definitely better, but I'm still not a fan.

You'll come out $5+k more. It has what many consider the BEST navigation system in the industry. Too bad you don't want it. XM radio with 3 month free subscription. Heated driver and passenger seats. Heated side mirrors. Autodimming rearview. 3 remote triggers (garage door). Automatic driver and passenger seats. Plenty of leg room. Smaller than an Accord and Camry, yet still a sedan. Leather is standard. Again, all are stock items. There really is no option for the TSX except With Navigation or Without Navigation.

Hondata has a chip which gives impressive gains. Send them your chip, you have it back the next day. Easy as that. $120 rear sway for a simple and relatively inexpensive way to greatly improve your handling. Most say this is all that is needed.

A-Spec suspension kit drops car 1" and keeps the same road feel.

~28 MPG on the highway. More is possible if you are careful.

I really don't know what there is not to like.

Weakest engine of the bunch, no V6 option.
Needs premium.
Gas mileage not that great for a 4 banger
Could be lighter
Not RWD?

Other than that, it's perfect for me.

former honda / nissan driver

currently own Both a Mazda6 and the Legacy GT.

you get used to hoodscoop, it took me a while, but now i cant imagine my car without it.
No matter what you think of the car's styling though -- at least do use the favor of taking it for a test drive.... I PROMISE, you won't even consider the TSX or 6 after having sat down in, and driven the Legacy.

I wanstn't a huge fan of the looks at first, until i drove it. It's amazing how much a car that is fun to drive can change your feelings towards it.

My fiancee drives the mazda, it's a nice car, very roomy, and fun to drive. (I've even Auto-X'ed it before, and it didnt do that bad for a stock, FWD sedan)... but it doesn't have that fun factor of the subaru.

They didn't like it quite as much.

Despite the turbocharger, the 0-60 was about the same as the TSX, and the mileage wasn't too spectacular.

where do you see 0-60 times of the LGT on that page? i only see the outback times listed.. Every Car review i've seen puts the LGT at around 5.6 - although recently got as low as 5.3 by one magazine.

anyhow, internet/magazine test drives are worthless... you've actually got to sit in a car to appreciate it.

but if your dead set against the legacy - i'd take the Mazda as a second choice.

for an NA car, the TSX is very responsive to mods if you are into mods. It benefits 20+ WHP from bolt ons and reflashed ECU. This can be done for ~1K and basically doesn't affect reliability. link
invoice is 25K.

for 2006, there will be a 6MT V6 accord sedan available and HP increased to 250. If past is any example, probably EX only trim for 6MT, but it includes bigger brakes, bigger wheels/tires, different intake, different intake manifold. EX has leather and sunroof. Invoice typically ~24K. Stock handling on this car is a weak point, but it benefits alot from a $50 OEM TL rear sway bar and 30 min installation.

G35 is available with a 6MT/sedan, it gets more HP at 298 (vs 280 for auto) and sport package. Invoice for a G35 6MT sedan is ~28K, which is close to a realistic market price. Sunroof is not standard, but 19" wheels, MP3, HID and leather is.

Legacy GT if you buy, apparently this is the last year for cloth option if you want to reduce the cost and invoices ~24K. Leather+sunroof is 1k more.

"No opportunity to test 168-hp Legacy 2.5i or Outback 2.5i. Turbocharged Legacy 2.5 GT and Outback 2.5 XT provide plentiful power--7.8 sec 0-60 mph--after some annoying turbo lag. Turbo lag can hinder passing response with automatic transmission, but manual-shift feature a help. Some testers find manual transmission to have imprecise, overly long shift action. (Note that short-throw shifter is an option.) Six-cylinder models muster less midrange muscle than turbos, and can also suffer delayed around-town throttle response, though it's more consistent than turbos. Test Outback 3.0 R did 7.9 sec 0-60 mph."

But I hear ya--test drives are in order.

magazine racing sucks. They probably tested an auto in some uncontrolled/uncorrected condition. manual 4 cylinder accords are that fast these days.

No, we won't. Legacy GT leads the class IMHO.

BTW, rumor is next year you can get an Accord V6 sedan with a manual tranny. Course, who knows how true it is.

Altima = fugly
Mazda6 = underpowered (unless you go for the Mazdaspeed6, out in September)
TSX = underpowered
