So my dad has been looking around for a cheap sports car. He seems to want a magical one that is a hardtop convertible, seats 4, is good in the snow, and is cheap.

He has already looked at the RX-8 and miata. I dont know about the S2000, he might have mentioned it. He said he like the RX-8, except it isnt a hardtop, so that rules that out.

Now he is looking at THIS VW sports car thing.

I keep suggesting a Lotus. It meets most of his criteria, except for the seats 4, and its a little more pricey than hes willing. I really dont think he will go for this, but its kinda the dream car I want him to have, so I can drive it occasionally.

I also keep suggesting MR2's and S2000's, but MR2's arent made in America anymore, and he might have already looked at the S2000.

Is there anything else I am missing? What could I use to sway my dad's confidence in this ugly car?

rx-8 is a hardtop

also why does your father want the cars to be made in america.
I'd prefer them to be made over in Japan and shipped over here :p

Ya, sorry about that. Was looking at something else, and linked the wrong thing. Fixed now.

He wants a convertible hardtop, not just a hardtop.

He doesnt care where they are made. I was saying MR2's arent, should I say shipped?, to America anymore, and it would be harder to find one.

BTW: that link was a comparison, apparently, of Gamecubes and Wii's graphics. As far as I know, I do not have a fetish for pokemon...

So can the S2000 qualify as a hardtop?

An EOS? He can do a lot better than that. What about a 350Z Roadster?

that isnt a sports car.

350Z is a 2 seater.

I have an S2000 and it is a blast to drive.

Not sure exactly what he wants, but if he wants 4 seats, convertible, raw power, 2003/2004 Mustang Cobra Convertible.

None of those have a retractable hard top. Most 4 seat, retractable hardtop sports cars are german. Also, the RX-8s are pretty unreliable and also NOT a convertible of any sort.

Because the Z totally has 4 seats and a hard top convertible.

You are very limited with 4 seats & a hard top. You basically are looking at the VW Eos and the Pontiac G6 for anything under $50,000.

Well, I dont think ill let him get this car. Its ugly, and I would feel ashamed every time I saw it.

Will look at BMW's and 350Z and Eclipse. They all seem to be around the price range.

I just found a lotus near us on ebay. I dont think he will go for it, but ill call him and check it out.

Uhmm... if he's looking for something that seats 4, why are you suggesting MR2's and S2000's, and why is HE looking at Miata's?

I missed the "good in snow" part.

A 350Z would be one of the worst possible cars you could buy for winter driving.

If you want good winter handling you are looking mostly at FWD or AWD vehicles. Yes, you can get by with RWD but with a high power, performance oriented car, but it's almost pointless to try.

Well, hes on a business trip right now, and he just got off the phone with him and my mom, using a different phone. They both wont tell me if the car is for my mom, or my dad. The seats 4 I just barely heard about on the phone. He never cared about it before, and I dont think hes very commited to it. I think it was because my mom was on the line also.

Anyone know about MR2's? Last time I said that they arent sent to the U.S. anymore, some guy called me a dumbass and said they were. Except that it says on Toyota's site it isnt manufactured here anymore.

if he wants a convertable that is nice to use in the snow, i'd recomend the EOS, its fwd, a bit easier to handle in the snow than a rwd roadster (which only seats 2 btw).

By the way, the president of VW just resigned today. I would NEVER buy any european car unless I have $$ to blow...

As long as you have snow tires... you're pretty much golden in the snow.
