that car is hot. I'm wondering though, why is everyone so willing to jump on a 1st year car ?

a lot of them have money to blow and ability to just drop it off and take out the MB.

I am surprised with the people I work with buying all the cool econoboxes lately and dumping a ton of cash in them.

I will just stick to my 98 240SX SE ;) currently the whole interior is out while I am doing security, quieting any rattle/squeak that's developed in the last 80k miles, and getting my CD player back in. Great car that only needs a turbo to be perfect for fun street car...don't expect to travel in it or carry more than 2 passengers. Groceries would be good in a Tc, and travelling would be easy.

EDIT: To be clear, these are the cars that I would buy if I had the 20K. I do _not_ recommend them to anyone who isn't willing to make the requisite sacrifices to keep them maintained properly. And yes, there will be sacrifices.
the 97' boxter seems like a good deal. it's a bit old but it's S2000 money for a prosche.
Porsches run forever if they're maintained. Age doesn't bother them that much.

Age yes and no...on the outside no way, double galvanized bodies do wonders :)

However, in the sunbelt once their interiors start cracking (pre 1990 last I looked a couple years ago) expect costly interior repairs.

Parts cost is pretty normal, german engineering increases the labor time though removing panels and covers, etc...but for a DIY'er not a big deal.

My two choices were 97/98 240SX SE/LE or 88 S/89 944 Turbo, I found a few 944's with only 20k miles or less on them but asking prices were $25k+ and the ones I saw had some interior problems but flawless exteriors.

Currently the Scion TC( Pic here )

Is currently the best bang for your buck.

30mpg highway, about the same for City.

Awesome Pioneer sound system and CD/stero. AC, neat dash board..

Very realible as well.

Its just like the Toyota Celica (Same parts) except its 15k cheaper.
The Scion is supposed to replace the Celica in the coming years..

The design for the car is just great....

There is the Accord..but meh...everyone has an accord.

Um - no, they share nothing with each other. The tC is a direct decent of the Toyota Avensis, which is built off Toyota's Global Camry platform.

psssht.

They are finicky SOBs. Just ask other porsche owners. I loved my 928s but after a few grand in maintenance per year I said bye-bye.

Im curious as to what you guys think. If you could buy any car (only cars, no trucks etc..) for around 20,000 or less... what would you get?

Cobalt SS or Saturn Ion Redline
