YACT: automatic gearbox has a lead over maual in the low-range acceleration

The result would depend on cars, but an automatic transmission has an edge over manual transmission in acceleration in lower range because of the torque multiplification benefit given by the the torque converter. The presence of torque converter though, causes it to fall back in higher speed acceleration.

See the graph I made:

Starting from 0. the time it takes to get to speed on x axis.

Do you realize a lot of drag racers use automatics?
The numbers are so close that automatics are quicker than manuals, because the typical manual drivers aren't the fastest at shifting.

thats why drag racing sucks... hahahahahahah... 😕

Of course they do, drag racers are pussies!!!!
😉

You forgot to factor in gearing, generally the gearing for a manual's lower gears are much lower than a automatics. Also a torque converter has a parasitic loss to it, thus removing any extra torque you think your gaining.
Forgot about the auto lag.

Pussy..no clutch...etc.

For a small economy car like a civic, a manual will be faster. But for a larger high horsepower car an auto will be faster because the powerloss in the torque converter is less significant. All top fuel dragsters use autos.

For racing on a track though it's important to be able to change gears because the driver can anticipate what an auto tranny can't.

Automatics tend to be slower than Manuals, at least the ones made for street use. The drag racing ones are completely different, and the main benefit is CONSISTANCY, not speed.

When you're driving a 7000hp drag racer that can do the quarter mile in less than 5 seconds, that half second or quarter second it would take you to switch gears in a manual makes a huge difference in your time. The power lost in the torque converter would just make your wheels spin anyway for the first 1/8 mile at least. An auto IS faster if you have enough horsepower.

ps. top fuel dragsters don't have automatics.
They use a series of clutches that lock in sequence. There is no first, second, third etc.
It's forward or reverse.

Sorry, the 7000 horsepower Top Fuel and Funny Cars don't have a transmission at all. They launch with a clutch, though.

So how do you do a launch on auto? Revv it up in neutral and drop it into drive?
Power brake. Drag cars have stall converters, which let the car rev higher before moving.

Not true, drag racers that use manuals are the FASTEST shifters.

The reason that that 99.9 percent of drag racers use automatics is consistency.

You won't see anyone ever win at the local drags with a stick, unless he is racing in a stick-only class.

I dont buy standard transmission cars to be faster

I buy them because they are cheaper and get better gas mileage

It's fun to watch a guy with a manual race though, when he knows what he is doing.

The whole slide your foot off the clutch sideways thing because the spring will engage the clutch faster then your muscles can pick your foot off the pedal, everything.

Your shrill insistence on what's cool and what's not has certainly convinced me.

and

i can just change the increase the differential ratio and make even more torque than your auto tranny. I don't see what's the big deal.
