about the fuel gauge, my 99 S-10 did the same thing, it's the sending unit. it will set a code in the computer, but not set the MIL.

you feel the gas pedal pull by itself? do you have cruise control?

I feel the gas pedal pull when it's about to turn off, and sometimes when the air conditioner is on, the pedal will pull and the AC will blow warmer air. but my car doesn't have cruise control Sh!t it doesn't even have powerlocks or powerwindows!! and I can't open the back doors from the inside!!! and the tint is peeling off, and the rear-view mirror fell off twice. Oh and the TRUNK DOESN'T OPEN!!

Child safety locks on?

LOL:D I didn't even notice he said that.

Oh sh!t, lol.. I didn't even realize the Cavalier was a 98... I thought it was an early 90s one or something.

Well, ok.. Change it to 1500$ and early 90s. ;)

It isn't going to be things like the coolant system, unless your engine is overheating and siezing each time, but somehow I doubt that. ;)

It sounds like a funky sensor or something...

Maybe get a heat gun and start pointing it at things to see if you can get the car to shut off? LOL.. seems ridiculous. These strange kind of problems can drive you nuts though.

Again I would place my bet on an ignition or fuel delivery problem. Fuel pump (even if replaced), ignition control module, plug wires, etc.

so it's not likely vapor lock? what should I attack first? I'm worried if I take it to a mechanic they'll just say I need to fix everything, and I can't argue because I don't know. fuel delivery problem sounds likely but why does it only happen when it's hot?

-SelArom

Man I really can't tell you. It is hard to correctly diagnose online and both my theories are expensive parts. Fuel pump $250. Ignition module $150. I say wait till it gets hot and take it to a dealer.

i just came back from a beer run @ heb in my pos, and the car ran fine. it almost made me feel like I was driving a normal car... but it got me thinking, i remember the only time the car died in the winter on one holy crap mother of a hot day (or as we call it here in rgv, tx, tuesday) and it was HOT. i mean, think of the hottest day you've experienced in your non-southest city besides miami,fl and multiply it by 100 and you'll be half as hot as it was that day) and the car totally DIED almost 15 times. it is the heat!!!! it's the heat!! what do I do?!!! i'm sorry I'm drunk....

Now, go buy a heat gun, more beer, and start pointing it at random things in a drunken stupor to prove your theory!

;)

Fix it.
Also haven't you learned already that the Cavalier is a POS. Why would you dump $2900 more dollars than you have to.

but it's got 142000 miles on it is it really worth it? I don't want to fix it, have it break down, then buy another car anyway later. and when one car is a pos the whole line of cars is a pos? when did that happen?

The mileage you would gain is not worth $2900 and your car. Fix the one you have.

Cavaliers have always been and always will be low end crap. Blame it on the price pint they have to compete at.
