I have modded it though and it did greatly improve gas mileage.

What exactly did you mod?

Full exhaust, Cold air intake, new computer tune that requires 91 octane.

My late model mustang is an sn95 vert. It has the basic bolt ons and a nice set of afr heads. I get a lil below 20 on the freeway. I don't even know what kind of city mileage I get. I just know its horrible but, I love the car.

How much HP did that add for you, or have you had it dyno'd?

A full exhaust and intake would be first on my list of upgrades for sure. I'd rather not mess with the computer though; I'd like to have stupid-fun amounts of power while maintaining stock driveability and fuel consumption. For now anyway ;)

That's not the point, but thanks for contributing. I could easily afford a car that gets 10MPG using Premium, but I'd like some level of conservation and wanted some real world estimates.

Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming

Corvettes's do about 30 mpg on the highway ... I was shocked to find that out several months ago.

Yeah I know! A friend's fiance drives like a C4/C5 automatic and gets 23MPG stop & go :Q A few year old Vette is a consideration, but I don't have much passion for Vettes honestly. Great cars, but nothing flies up my dress like a Goat, Camaro, or Firebird ;) Looking at a Mustang for the economics of it, but we'll see

Intake change requires a tune for the computer.

Why's that? Does it use a picky airflow sensor?

Yep. Most places sell the intake and tuner together, only. It causes a lot of problems if you don't tune.

Interesting, probly drives the cost of the upgrade up quite a bit. Does the tune affect mileage do you know, or just compensate for the different intake? I'd imagine if its changing something in the computer, it might be adjusting air/fuel ratios for the new intake; could end up reducing mileage?

So share your mileage ;)

EDIT And does that leave the stock airflor sensor in place? Is that why?

Yeah, stock MAF sensor is re-installed on to a billet mounting plate on the intake tube.

Mileage around town ~ 16MPG...driving it like it's stolen :D

I have just under 300hp at the rear wheels now. An exhaust really won't do much for you as Ford has done a phenominal job with the stock set-up. I changed it mostly for sound and expecting very little increase in power (still got 5HP and 5tq though with hi-flo cats and an X-pipe). You will start to make power when you change out manifolds for headers. You can use an 87 octane tune, but I chose the 91 as the tuner can do more with smoother burning fuel.

Gas mileage improved greatly, as stated above.

Is the 23 mainly city or highway?

My concern is 'cuz at least right now, a lot of my driving is stop & go city.

23 mpg, nice

i wonder if they can squeeze it up to 24 on a 93 tune (premium in texas)

I guess that is a lot of highway. I am in the military but live about 20 minutes away from post. And on post the route I take is basically 40mph with very few stops untill I get to my building. I'd think you'd still be able to get 20mpg even with a lot of stop and go. And it takes 87 octane fuel, so you save money there.

I have an '03 Cobra, its a little bit different beast but with 85% of my driving being highway I get around 19mpg.

I do have some mods done, but just thought I would put in my 2 cents.

That's what I'm hoping for with a Mustang; 87 octane and decent mileage. One might be able to get 20MPG city out of a GTO driving conservatively and even more on the highway thanks to the 6-speed, but it drinks premium. We'll see... :)

Thanks for the info, but I bet that SC sucks some gas ;)

Ya, when you lay into the throttle and get into the boost you can almost see the gas gauge drop, but other than that, I think it gets pretty good mileage for having close to 420hp.

Hehe, I'd imagine all that boost is worth it tho

According to the car's computer readout, I'm averaging 20.6 mpg. 90% is commuting (about 40% stop-and-go and 50% between 15mph and 75mph) and the other 10% is errend running around town.

I tend to be aggressive with the throttle but conservative with the shift points; 60%-80% throttle but shifting at only 2,000 RPM.

If I really wring it out, I get about 18.
