I'm shopping for a new head unit and I have narrowed it down to the Pioneer DEH-P5500MP and the Pioneer DEH-P7500MP. The 7500 is more but it's got a cool display and three sets of 4-volt preamp outputs and I think some more stuff too. But is it really worth the extra price? I can get them both about $60-70 cheaper than Crutchfield btw. I just can't decide....
 
yes its good. lods of options. the sub out is nice. does a fine job with my nakamichi subs and amp. plays MP3s sweetly. and XM radio works like a dream

anything else you wanna know
 
I just installed the DEH-P8500MP in my car yesterday. It would have been nice if the face flips backward when the car is off instead of having to take the faceplate out to deter theft. I don't know if this is the same for DEH-P5500MP/P7500MP but the display only scrolls ONCE. It doesn't scroll constantly. You have to press SCROLL to make the display scroll the title of the song, and it will stop after one scroll. Very annoying. Does anyone know which unit has the ability to read playlist or allows you to create your own playlist and saves that playlist inside the unit's memory? Regardless of the minor quirks, I still like the unit. Got it brand new sealed for $320 on ebay. Crookfield wants $550 for it.

I looked at the 8500 too and it's very cool but I have a convertible and it just screams steal me!
 
The face is detachable though. But if a thief wants to take the unit, they will take it with or without the face. Many thieves know about the face-flippable unit too. So they will still attempt to steal it even if they don't see the face. I guess it can deter theft just a bit but not by much.

Yeah, the auto-flip HU's don't make much sense to me.
If a crook knows his products, he'll know exactly what's going on.

I've had the 7300 for 3 years and am waiting for it to break before I can upgrade to an MP3 unit 🙁
The 7500 looks like the upgrade for the 7300 with mp3 playback and some extras.
If it performs as well as my 7300, it should be a very fine unit.
Even upload pics to the OEL? Awesome 😀
 
I like my 5500MP. The 7500MP has a couple of extra features but none that I really need and not worth the extra $100 IMO.
 
BTW, eBay isn't a bad place to buy car audio stuff, esp. head units.
They usually have very competitive pricing with dutch auctions.

many times when a crook sees a HU without a faceplate, they will just move onto the next car. simple as that.
 
go with the DEH-P550MP. It has a removable remote that you can place on the steering wheel. I just got it and its great!

yes, that's a premier model. I only got it because I can now change stations from my steering wheel. Oh, and the sound is better too.
 
does the 750 have the steering wheel remote too? i was looking but I can't tell if it does though....
