Rinse several times.

I also like to let the rice soak in cool water for like 15 minutes before cooking. Seems to turn out a lot better that way.

If I am cooking sushi rice I rinse it until the water becomes clear. I pretty much just follow the directions on the bag / on my rice cooker, but you are definitely supposed to rinse sushi rice.

Rinse a few times. I have not met any asian family that does not rinse. You never know how clean the rice is or if worms are in it. (Yes, I've caught a couple of tiny worms during the rinsing once.)

I don't cook enough rice to give this a thought. I generally just follow the directions on the box.

Same.

yes, you learn to do this especially after you buy a bad batch and find bugs in it.

that's why I always rinse once briefly, never found any bugs, but have found bad pieces and small sticks and leafs...

Don't rinse after cooking. It removes the ability to cling to other liquids and other rice grains.

Rinse before cooking. It removes the elephant poop and god knows what else was used to harvest the rice.

So how are y'all rinsing?

The holes in all of colanders are too large and the rice slips through.

I've been putting the rice in a deep bowl and slowly running water into the bowl for a few minutes. There has to be a better way.

I have a rice cooker. Use the main container, put rice in, put water in while stirring with my hands, pour out water. Repeat until the water is more or less clear. Add water, put in cooker, come back in 20 minutes. I always wash. Never had rice in a box or one thats not prepared in a rice cooker...

any pan would do. add water, swirl it a little with your hand. dump water, add water. repeat a few times. Then drain and dump rice in cooker. MEasure water with cup and put into cooker.
