I don't know, I like 5 Guys. All of the ones I've been to were super clean and super good. The few Fudd's I've been too were pretty nasty, flies all over, just pretty bad. May have just had bad luck though.

I used to think it was overpriced but then I realized there's practically a free salad bar that comes with your burger :)

5 guys is better than mcdonalds, but their burgers are always way too greasy, with cheap buns similar to something you'd find at the dollar store.

Fuddruckers is awesome.. From the meat, to the bread, to the fries and shakes.

5 Guys are so bad. I actually went FOUR separate times to see if I was missing anything during the immense hype.

Sucks.

Even Chili's $10 applewood bacon burger is 100x better (more meat, real buns, etc)

I'm lucky in a way - nearby five guys, Fuddrucker's, In n Out, Sonic, and many others.

But I'm not that excited about those - I remember Backyard Burgers being great, none in the west.

I do have a great burger though, at a one of a kind coffee shop named Val's, that has sometimes been called one of the best in the western US.

I also have a 'burger bar' in San Francisco for about $15 (they have a 'truffle burger' for about $60 but doesn't sound good).

The sit down chains aren't that bad of burgers - Chili's is good, Red Robin, and many others.

Then there are the 'decent restaurants' - some chains like BJ's or Cheesecake Factory, some individual restaurants.

fudd's is good, but expensive. All you can load toppings and the fudds down here have the new Coke dispensing machines that allow you to select ANY Coke brand product

No its not expensive.. i get a pound burger and mondo wedge fries and a coke for like $11... considering what I'm getting, that's cheap. Hell, a 7oz burger and small basket of fries is $11 where I work. They are tasty but I'd much prefer fudds

Fudd isn't cheap, but it's cheap compared to Five Guys. I went once, food was decent, prices were obscene. And the bun was pathetic, I mean for how much the tiny ass burger cost it should have came on a damn gourmet roll of some kind. If you're going to charge that much for a burger it better be either big as hell, or fancy, and five guys fits neither of those.

Fuddruckers only negative in my eyes are the steak fries, I like regular fries. But the cheese pump sort of negates the fact I don't like steak fries. A 3/4lb burger + chili cheese fries there is a killer combo.

Fud's has sweet potato fries.
Smashburger, In-n-Out Burger and Johnny Rockets are some alternatives in the North Phoenix area.

Johnny Rockets is good. We don't have one close enough to hit on a whim, but there's one at a mall about 20 miles away. Another similar place here is Fatburger. But I feel like Fudd's is in a different class from either of these.

Fatburger tastes decent, they offer regular and fat fries, which I haven't seen at any other place. But holy hell are they expensive. The $7 burger is only like a 1/3lb I think. They're infringing on sit down establishment pricing. They do off a fried egg on a burger, which sounds nasty but it pretty damn tasty. And I don't even like fried eggs. That place fails for their prices though. At the casino me and my friend ate there, a burger and fry and drink each. Nothing large, it was still over 20 bucks.

Still haven't been to one of these... can't believe they don't have any locations in NY. I'm definitely not venturing into NJ for just a burger either. Actually, I'm not venturing into NJ for a damn thing...

Is Fuddruckers the place where you put on your own toppings buffet style? If so, the one near me was disgusting when I went there. Just a bunch of kids running around and the bins were all messy, probably had little kids touching all of the toppings. I know this isn't their fault, but I don't like taking my toppings from a cafeteria bin.

If it's not the same place, then I'm not sure where I went that had this layout, but I remember it was considered a "gourmet" burger joint.
