Walmart carries it.

not exactly a "dark" beer the OP is looking for

Sams I can get them for $19 or so for a 24 pack of bottles.
You probably won't find Leine's much outside of the Minnesota/Wisconsin/Illinois/Iowa borders. Atleast I don't remember seeing it in either Colorado or here in Florida...IMO, Leine's isn't all that great anway.

Great beer, but I didn't think it was sold outside of either Pennsylvania/Tri-state area or Florida.

And in case anyone suggests it, Fat Tire isn't available east of Nebraska.

Maybe some Mississippi Mud? How much is that? Killian's and Molson are okay reds. Dose Equis (sp?) and Negro Modelo are decent ambers.

Blue Moon is great, but that's a wheat beer, not dark. However, if you like dark you'd probably like wheat. I suggest trying Arrogant Bastard Ale, even though it's not in your intended price range, it'll put hair on your chest.

Meh. Most dark beer drinkers aren't going to like Arrogant Bastard. I'm not a heavy hop fan. IPA's are usually too hoppy for my likes. Arrogant Bastard takes those even further. I drink darks to avoid high hopped stuff.

Totally agree...I just plug it every chance I get because of the hair/chest factor.

We drink a lot of British stuff.

But we like:

Sam Adams
AmberBock
Killians Red (if we cannot get the above two)

Now... if someone could tell me where I can get some FRULI, I would be a happy girl.

Can't say I've ever heard of that. And I've had a lot of different brands of beer. :)

I spent 7 weeks in England over Dec/Jan, with VeggieFrog and NeoSenate. It was right before I left that we went to dinner in a nice pub and I ordered my regular and NeoSenate ordered a Fruli. He offered me a taste and I fell in love. I spent the next four days trying to get a hold of some to bring home, but could not find it anywhere. I went to the specialty beer stores, but it would have had to be ordered and would not arrive before I had to leave.

It is a Belgian white/blonde beer and come in different fruity flavors (strawberry, apple, raspberry, banana...etc)

It is one of the best I have ever tasted and would buy it buy cases of it at a time, if I could find it.

Yeungling is my new favorite. I just recently moved to the coast of SC and it's available here. Other than that Killians.

so the movie "strange brew" isn't really indicative of a normal canadians day-to-day life?

It is

Beer @ the cost you guys are talking about is refered as the homeless Beer, since only homeless people drink it. If it doesn't cost 2-3$ a bottle, we usually think its crap.

We don't drink less beer, we just budget more for beer

His normal taste is dark beer. Well so is mine, but I still enjoy a nice white beer every now and again. I also prefer brunettes... but have had my fair share of blondes. Can't always be in the dark now can we?

Blue Moon is a poor mans version of Hoegaarden - my fav by far, but $8.99/6pk.

I believe the fruity taste of blue moon is more a result of the coriander than it is the hopping.

Leinie's has a "Summer Wheat" with coriander that my wife likes.

Wheats with coriander are the only ones I can drink.

And extraordinariy good dark for the price is Yeti Imperial stout. But I don't think you'll find it in grocery stores.

/reminds me I need to bottle my cider.... :)

gotta be a bit more specific... what's type of "dark" beer do you like? there's a world of difference between stouts, porters, amber ales, etc, etc... all of them being dark as compared to bud light.

For good, cheap, full-bodied beer I like Yuengling Black and Tan. I really like most of what Fat Tire makes, so I drink lots when I come to CO. Not that cheap, but if you are looking for a good heavy beer, try Milk Stout, its more creamy, and less bitter than Guiness (which I hate).

Heffewisens are good, if done right; but fruity beers should all be trippels(~9%ABV)!!!

Gonna pick up some Yuengling tonight and report back.

To the guy who wanted to know what kinds I like, I seem to enjoy Lagers, Abt (Abbey), and Bocks.

What're you talking about?! Canadian beer is just as cheap, if not cheaper than American beer. Here's the recipe: Take one bottle of Canadian beer, one empty bottle. Divide contents of beer evenly between the two bottles. Fill bottles the rest of the way with water.

There, now you've got American beer!

(Canadian beer in Canada isn't the same stuff as Canadian beer in the USA... the flavor and alcohol level are quite different. If you live close enough to the Canadian border, you can cross the border and bring back a couple cases to do a taste comparison.)
