XSN Sports Q&A
So what is XSN, anyway?

XSN takes the experience of playing sports games on Xbox Live beyond the Box and onto the PC, enabling you to set up leagues and tournaments with friends, neighbors, or total strangers through xsnsports.com, meanwhile tracking all of your stats, wins and losses, ranking your skills, and even awarding you trophies for winning championships (some virtual and down the road you might even win actual prizes). The service will also enable you to scout future opponents by checking his or her stats on running the ball in NFL Fever 2004 or how well they shoot the three in NBA Inside Drive 2004. You can e-mail the link to your box score to everyone in the league if you want to talk smack, and in the near future, maybe as soon as the first quarter of 2004, you will be able to schedule games in advance, or have league news sent to you on your PDA or cell phone using Microsoft's .Net technology.

What XSN modes will each game feature?

NFL Fever 2004: Online leagues (4, 8, 16, or 32 players) and single elimination tournaments

NBA Inside Drive 2004: Online leagues (4, 8, 16, or 32 players) and single elimination tournaments, with NBA-style best of seven series planned further down the line.

NHL Rivals 2004: Online leagues (4, 8, 16, or 32 players) and single elimination tournaments, with NHL-style best of seven series planned later down the line.

Top Spin: Online leagues (4, 8, 16, or 32 players) and single elimination tournaments, with major tournaments from the professional tour planned later down the line.

Links 2004: Single elimination stroke play tournaments, stroke play, match play

Amped 2: Single-player score competitions (tricks, media), and Posse competitions (up to eight players per posse, top four scores added together for team score).
:D

Not hardly. There is nothing on the PC like XSN.

Not to mention there is a pathetic choice of sports titles on the PC.

Too bad I don't like Microsofts brand of sports titles, cause this sounds cool :(

I play EA for Football and Soccer and Sega for Basketball and Hockey.

I hear ya. But I'll probably pick up NFL Fever just to try out XSN. :)

And I have hope for NHL Rivals.... But we'll see.

NHL Rivals and Amped 2 will have some very cool added features...
If you're a fan of hockey, listen close, because NHL Rivals 2004 will enable you to play a pickup game that consists of 3-on-3 hockey. The thing is, each player on the ice will be a player on Live, so once you choose your player, you're that player the entire game playing with two teammates and playing against three other hockey fans on the other team. You will also get to choose what type of player you want to be, from an agitator to a sniper, and your player's abilities will match that style. The goalies will be AI controlled, and rules like offsides and icing will be turned off to maximize the speed and scoring opportunities. But that's not all. You will also get to play on fantasy rinks like a frozen pond and a community ice rink.

But that's not the only game with something special planned for Live. Amped 2 will enable 8 riders to hit the mountain at one time and you will be able to turn on or off collisions. So if you just want to do your tricks while watching other amazining riders compete down the mountain at the same time, you can. If you want to ride around and try to knock down the other riders, the choice is yours. Sounds like two entirely different, yet equally fun experiences, and the best part is, like I said, the choice is yours.

EA soccer sucks the big long one.

If you have a PS2, do your self a favour and pick up a copy of Winning Eleven 6 (or 7, its out but its japanese, no english mod yet)

Very true... Football is the only sport which EA can (arguably) claim superiority

Yep. It's hard to argue that now with NFL2K and MS' own Fever. They were only truely superior when their only competition was Tecmo Super Bowl, lol :)

Sega NHL2k3 was great and I planned to jump on NHL2k4 (ESPN Hockey) when it came out... but now the competition, in addition to EASports, is now NHL Rivals. They all look so good...

What to do, what to do...

Not everyone is a Madden fanboi. EA's glory days of being sports king has long passed.

Tell that to 95% of male college students. They made Madden outsell the competition something insanle like nine to one. Or is it a coincidence that there's no such thing as the 2K series anymore?

The series is still around... They just renamed it ESPN NFL Football, because they licensed the rights to use all of the ESPN stuff.

True, true.

It's fun to watch the XBox fanboys try to justify their purchase of other titles. ;):p
