Ok guys i have a MSI K7T Pro2 Mobo (KT133a) and it supposively supports up to an XP2200+ becuz it supports 133mhz fsb

So i went ahead and bought a XP2100+ and updated my bios for the new CPU support and installed the cpu and set the core voltage to 1.75 and everything but i cannot get the fsb past 120 which gives me a XP1800+ at 1.57Ghz

Any time i set the fsb to higher than 120 the comp refuses to boot up (turns on but nothing happens - and if i check the Diagnostic LED it says its stuck on Processor Initiation)

Also it the bios i cannot set the fsb past 132 so i could not reach 133 anyway

I kno what i did was prolly stupid and i should upgrade the mobo but i really dont have the money right now

So does any1 have any advice for me on how to get the proper speeds?

Thanks, Rob

P.S. The CPU temp is fine @ 38C idle and 43C under load (but it is underclocked but heat isnt an issue)

if the bios only lets you set up to 132mhz then most likely you need to get the manual and find what jumper (on the board itself) gives you 133mhz and higher fsb speeds

most likely the reason the system wont boot above 120mhz isnt because of the cpu, but because the pci and agp buses are so far out of spec

Yes there should be a Jumper on the board that Switches from 100-132 to 133-1??

Go to the Bios and set it to 100Mhz. Turn System off and change jumper to 133Mhz markeing.

If you don't have you manual, than go to MSI and download one and it should tell you where to find it

You will find the answer to your problem in section 2-4 of your manual. It deals with Jumper J17. You must have that set correctly to do the 133 fsb settings.

You have the K7T Pro2 mobo, I have a question for you I have the same mobo K7T Pro2-A though, I've been wanting to upgrade but when I checked the MSI website, it said the highest CPU supported was the Thunderbird 1.4 GHz 200 FSB, so I've been trying to buy one w/ no luck. But you said you bought the 2000+ XP and that it should work? Let me know where you got the info or if you have gotten it to work, coz I want to do the same thing. Thanks email me amaretto3737@juno.com

I'm not totally sure what you are referring to here but, as far as I know, the K7T Pro2 board is the exact same one as the K7T Pro2-A board. Doing a search both on the MSI site and a "google" inquiry, netted no mention of any differences. Perhaps you are talking about the KT133 vs KT133A differences. Not sure but maybe you can provide more info. In any event, the CPU info should be the same which would mean that you can run up to the XP2200+ CPU, as long as you have the most recent BIOS update.

I have had both boards being discussed in this thread and may be able to shed some light here...

MSI K7T Pro2 - KT133 chipset - 100 MHz FSB - ATA66 drive support - No AMD Athlon XP+ support at native speed

MSI K7T Pro2A - KT133 chipset - 100 MHz FSB - ATA100 drive support - No AMD Athlon XP+ support at native speed

MSI K7T Turbo2 - KT133A chipset - 133 MHz FSB - ATA100 drive support - AMD Athlon XP+ support

I was going to post a link to the info but MSI's site is down right now, but give it a try later and search the site for info.

Hope this helps...

Forgot to mention, The K7T Turbo2 does have a jumper (J17) that sets the bus for either 100 MHz or 133 MHz as mentioned in previous posts, it's located just below the IDE1 and IDE2 connectors on the motherboard.

One other thing, the MSI K7T (KT133A) boards that support the Athlon XPs @ 133 MHz FSB are either a "RED" PCB with "K7T Turbo2" stamped between the PCI slots or are the typical "GREEN" with "6330 ver. 5" stamped between the PCI slots. The "Green" ones were OEM and lacked a few features that the "RED" one offered.

Almost. MSI K7T Turbo 6330 ver 3.0 also supports XPs. Just stops at 2000+. As does Turbo Lite.
