Wow the price hasn't really gone down at Fry's on this combo... I ended up getting the 2100+ and ECS combo for $150 about 2 months back.
Not a bad deal if that mobo is overclockable... I've had really really good results with the Epox 8rda+, went from a 1.7ghz to a 2.4ghz.

The Board Just one of the reviews of this board. These particular guys are not the best to go by, as they are not familiar with the Nforce2 chipset. But it gives you an idea of what even a not so familiar owner of the chipset can acheive. They said that they could not unlock the CPU, but I believe that most of the Nforce2 boards unlock the CPU multipliers for you?

There should be a big difference in quality between the K7N2-L and any of the ECS boards. I have this board and it's great. My 1700 Tbred unlocks and does quite nicely, thank you very much.

Which store/area? I can't find this on either LA Times or OC Register. Also I remember that last time there was an nForce2 combo at Fry's (the FIC board) it was only available in Texas.

Frys has an updated stock on cpu oem processors, and nearly everyone said they got a 2100 + t-bred B (those that hit 2200 - 2500 mhz) in the ecs combo deal.

Man, this is a great deal....still no Fry's on the EC though.

edplayer, you'll get an OEM XP, so you should be able to see right then and there. If they don't give you a B, just ask for another (I'm not sure exactly how Fry's bundles work, never been to one).

This board/chipset is lightyears ahead of the K7S5A.

Avoid this board like plague. Great performer but massive incompatibilities. The onboard sound is only software codec so directx will ahve problems. The drivers for the board itself crash during install half the time. There are io ranges in use even though no device is actually using them so installing your own cards is a nightmare. The BIOS gets corrupted regularly (I'm on my second of this board) and you ahve to clear cmos all the time just to get it to boot. It will get corrupted also most of the time when you try and increase fsb and decrease multipler.

Bottomline. Avoid nforce2 unless you get one with the real built in soundstorm and unless you really need that extra bit of performance over compatibility.

Just my $0.02....I had this mobo with IGP NorthBridge...and it sucks....can't really OC my RevB 1700 much, the pro OC's fine on my KT400 mobo, but when I put it on my MSI mobo, it doesn't work, will always reboot and crush during sandra burn-in or 3Dmark2001SE loops ....so if you are thinking of OCing it....perhaps try something else.....

hey considering that their best standing deal at fry's is a 2000+ chip and K7S5A Pro for $89, you pay $60 more and get a t-bred B 2100+ and an nForce2 motherboard with integrated GF4MX. this sounds like an awesome setup for an entry-level computer. hell, with the 2100+ OCing to 2600+ speeds at default voltage, 8x AGP slot and dual channel DDR, it is a good setup for a power user too!

when you do that, i think they adjust the price of the CPU back to whatever it is alone. you can always sell the board on ebay or in the FS forums, but then you would probably get net $70, making the chip $80. that is about what it goes for on newegg, so it probably isn't worth all the work.

I tried it once and it worked. I even had the CPU with me in case they wouldnt just take the board back.

Edit: Without raising the price of the CPU of course. They refund me the same amount that's been paid for the mobo part on the receipt.

This is the 'Lite' version. It does not have the built in graphic chip.

i have the igp version of this board (but i have a ti4200 plugged in currently so not exactly taking advantage, its just there for backup).

it could o/c my 1900 pally to like 155 fsb. i am getting a 2100 tbred b in the mail soon, i think i can do at least 166 bus. it seems like a very stable board have had no problems at all so far.

It was an XP2000+ w/ MSI KT266A combo at around Sep/Oct 2002... didn't like the board since it was so outdated so I returned it. Didn't like the CPU either (it was a Palomino...) but at that time the lower-rated TBreds weren't out yet and I needed a CPU badly so I just went ahead and kept it.
