Hey everyone,

Just putting together a system for a friend and it's using a CoolerMaster DP5-6J31C

http://www.coolermaster.com/products/cpucooler/fcpga/dp5-6j31c.html

Everything seems to run fine, but man it's running right at 60C.

Am I missing something here? The description says it's adequate for a XP2100.
This was the temp with the side panel off the case. The case doesn't have any other fans installed.
Case temp was 95F.

It's not going to be overclocked during it's use at all, just a machine for a college student to do some work on and burn some cds, that is about it.

Can you recommend any other HSF that I should use if this setup appears it is not going to cut it.
I'm trying to keep total cost as low as possible, but still provide adequate cooling to keep it stable. Again this system will never be overclocked.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give in this matter. I appreciate it.

I have the XP 1900 running overclocked to a XP2100 and I use a ThermalTake Volcano 9 and cool fans in the case. My computer hoovers around 38 - 40 degrees celcius. I'm pretty sure I put arctic silver on it when I put it together.

Just to make sure everything was applied correctly.

I just pulled the heatsink and cpu out of the system. Cleaned the surfaces of both some some acetone based cleaner, with a coffee filter, then applied some thermal compound to the heatsink using a sandwich bag, then cleaned that off with a clean coffee filter. I also cleaned the cpu with a coffee filter and some acetone and then applied a small dab of thermal compound to the cpu with my drivers license (which was cleaned also), I then spread a thin layer over it and make sure there were no peaks or anything. I then put it back in the system.

Booted it up, still sits in bios at idle at 60-61C. Case temp 27-30C.

What gives? I guess this heatsink/fan setup is just horrible.

Guess I'll try another cooling solution, any suggestions?

isn't the temp diode on the m/b instead of chip in xp's? i forget, some m/bs give bad readings. is it crashing? does the heatsink feel extremely hot? install some case fans. this is the x-pider i just built, its got 5 case fans alone.

it almost seems excessive until you realize they are all hooked up to a fanbus/rheostat that lowers their rpm until they are practically silent:) all working together they keep it nice a cool:) btw did u get a tbred xp or a palomino. tbreds run way cooler.

Nah, it runs fine no crashing at all. I was just a little concerned. I went and looked on ask.amd.com and they have documents on there stating that you don't have to worry about it hurting the die until 90C. So I'm beginning to not worry too much about it.

I don't have any case fans in it at all, cept for the cpu hsf. I am getting these temps with the side covers completely off in a pretty cool room. So dunno what the deal is, I'll see how it keeps doing. Seems fine right now, no slowdowns or anything.

It's a palomino. Thanks for all your help.
