XP1800 + ECS K7S5A for $159 at OUTPOST

Link to combo

I got all excited about this, too, when I first saw it, but if you add it up it's not really that great. First of all, the processor is obviously OEM or they would have said "boxed", and then...

1) you can get the K7S5A shipped from outpost.com for about $56
2) tcwo's xp1800 has fallen to $105 = $111.95 shipped

If you add these you get $167.95 which is about what it would cost to ship the outpost.com combo to me.

Now if the processor were retail that would be a deal worth considering.

I thought the same thing about the processor being OEM - so I called. According to the rep I spoke too it's the retail boxed CPU. Therefore I think this may be a pretty decent deal.

And to follow up for DinoGucci, OEM is usually the processor only with a 30 day warranty. The retail version comes with a fan and has a 3-year warranty. I know most people like to get beefier fans for overclocking and such, but the retail fan does fiine with me.

I picked mine up based on the rep's info, and I'll let you folks know if it is indeed retail or OEM.

I called and spoke to a rep also. He said it is retail box and comes with a fan, so I picked one up. It's exactly what I need for my friend's computer. Thanks a lot Stormysdad!

FYI, I've been watching the price on this mobo for a few days now and wanted to order when they had them at 49.95. Then they had an earthquake in Taiwan, and have been noticing prices inch up. Checked yesterday and the mobo went to 52, so ordered. Now today I found this. Called Outpost and was able to upgrade. No complaints about them from me. Have ordered plenty from them, shipping is very reasonable and stuff arrives in great shape. They use AirborneExpress instead of FedEx or UPS. Too bad they don't have any online coupons now.

FYI, I checked my order status at Oupost.com and it is confirmed in there as (with a little editing to make it fit here):

K7S5A Socket A AMD Motherboard

Outpost # K7S5A Socket A AMD Motherboard

$34.31

AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Socket A Boxed Processor

Outpost # AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Socket A Boxed Processor

$124.69

Shipping for ground was about $6.30 and 2nd day was $8.26. Nice find Stormysdad

can anyone tell me if this setup will work in one of my $18.75 cases I snagged from Compgeeks? It has a 250w PS? PLease oh please say yes????

this mobo/cpu combo is awesome! ive built a few systems with it and it clocks like a millifraction under a kt266a yet you save $$$$ on the mobo.

Sweet. Was thinking about picking up the Duron 1ghz w/ ECS mobo but for this price I'll jump ship. Really didn't want to spend this much though... I'll just blame this hot deal forum.

Tax & Shipping bourght mine up to $179.58 though. 2nd day was only $1 more than ground for me...

NICKel,
It's kind of a crap shoot with the PS. It's not supposed to work, but I have a Athlon XP 1700 running fine on a Future Power 250W PS with no problems. I was using waiting for an RMA on another PS I bought. The new one is sitting on my desk now waiting to be installed while the 250W keeps purring along.

If you use the Amex blue card and want to PM, how do you do it with this deal? Do you have to price it against a combo or can you split it up? I doubt that the mobo will be less money in a month, but the CPU might.
