Thanks for the hot deal.
This is the first mobo I've bought with on board sound.. I know it's the death knell of gamers of old, but does it hurt today's performance too much, (and if so, one deactivates it through the bios, right?)
Can anyone link to reviews?
Thanks again.

Edit: Before I'm attacked for being lazy and not typing K7S5A and review into google. and comming up with these matches:ocworkbench and amdmb. I was wondering if Anand or a reviewer you liked has an assessment. Thanks.
BIOS 2/27/02 Manual

really quick (and I'll do more research as well)), what would the corresponding equivlanet be from Intel?

I'm out of touch on how AMD names thier processors.

thanks!

(I asked this question b4, but i forgot what people told me)

The folks at Outpost must be mind readers. Seriously. I put in an order for this bundle last night about 10 p.m. CST and then this morning I get a shipping confirmation from Outpost. What it says on my shipping tracker information at Airborne Express is bizarre. It says that the package was picked up from the Ohio warehouse last night at 7:42 p.m. EST. How can that be? Outpost somehow had to know that I was going to order this and then went ahead and shipped out 3 hrs and 18 min's before I ordered. Anyone know the number to Ripley's? 😉

I've had this motherboard for quite awhile, and am very happy with it. It has a built in NIC, which is a bonus for me with my cable modem. It works perfect. I am putting together a system for my bro-in-law, and I may order this combo instead of ordering from newegg. The best source of information for this board is at the ocworkbench forums.

NICKel:
This board is very fussy about the power supply. Usually, the minimum recommendation for this board is 300W. Give it a shot, and see if it works.

crobusa:
I've disabled the sound, and use a Soundblaster Live! value with no problems.

I just ordered one! Thanks for the heads up. I guess the mobo supports several different kinds of ram. How do the speeds vary with DDR and PC100/133?

<< Is Outpost finally making good on warranties for this motherboard ? >>

Just got off the phone with an Outpost rep. You have to deal with the manufacturers directly for any warranty issues.

He also confirmed that the CPU is retail packed.

Do you think this is still a good deal, in spite of the warranty issue?

I've built 8 or so pcs with this motherboard and all of them have worked flawlessly except one that would lockup after a few minutes of playing MOHAA. I sent it back and got a replacement from newegg and that one worked great. So in my experience this board has been more reliable than Asus and Abit have been for me. Be sure that you're case has plenty of ventilation with the processor though, cuz it runs hot. I personally don't think that the heatsink that comes with it is good enought. Get a copper Vantec or something that is rated well and be sure to have a couple case fans. I built a 1700+ with this mobo and it would do funny things until I fixed the heat problem.

Ordered 2 last night and when I woke up this morning they had already shipped! Woohoo!

The XP 1800+ processor is now backordered, although the motherboard is still in stock.

Thanks for the excellent heads up Stormysdad!

I built my first PC with a K7S5A/950 MHz Duron ($89 combo at Fry's back in December)and it works great.

Here are a couple of handy K7S5A links in case you run into problems with your setup:

The following is an associated website that has some fixes for a couple of potential K7S5A problems such as "data corruption" and "Lost CMOS":

I would not skimp on the power supply for this motheboard. I'd recommend 300+ Watts and the "AMD approved" label. The OCWorkbench link mentioned above has a K7S5A power supply FAQ that might help out:

I hope you guys are right about the BOXED CPU. Since that is the reason I bought it. I agree about ECS MOBO... I have put 8 of these together for fry's 950Durons, and they run PERFECT. No complaints yet....

Hope to have another fast system...

Got 2 512Meg DDR 2100 Sticks waiting for this... FRYS has them for 104...

According to Pricewatch, Accubyte.com and Sonicparts.com have this combo for $144 and $145. Although Sonic only offers a 15 day warranty on the CPU probably because it is OEM.

I also ordered a stick of Crucial 256mb DDR PC2100 ram for $67 shipped 2nd day air.

Got mine too. All retail boxed. I also love the fact that they separated the price of the mobo and CPU because I bought it with the AMEX Blue card, so I can hopefully PM before the end of the month for a better price. I dought the mobo will be any cheaper than $34, but the processor might be cheaper.

Thanks for the deal!

Boo! Hiss! I placed my order Saturday, but now they're backordered. I called, and the next shipment comes in on 4/16.

I set mine up last night and it runs pretty fast and stable with PC100 ram and an ATA66 HD. Although it's only running at 1.15ghz because the ram slows the FSB speed to 100mhz. I ordered some DDR ram from Crucial and an 80 gig ATA100 drive and that should double the speed. The onboard sound is pretty decent also. I played some mp3s, games and streaming audio and it sounded flawless. The onboard Lan also worked fine. Although the extra USB mobo plug didn't fit the plug on my case from Fry's.

I ordered 4 of them. Free shipping. I'll sell the rest. Popped one open some Kingston ddr 333 ram. Overclockers bios on the ECS board i flashed. Now running at 150fsb. or 1725mhz stable. No not with the factory heatsink. A cheap copper SVC heatsink $14.

Nice xp2100+ system for cheap.

<< it's 189 now >>

yupe2

This combo is rock.
I finish build my 1st system with this.
I love it so far.
I don't know later 😉

just about to buy another combo for my friend, but not with $189 price.
too bad the deal is over :|

The back ordered processor shipped last night (4-12) so should be able to build it next week. My son has the old 1st revision board with a Tbird 850 and has had no problems with it.

thanks for this great post, i bought and its been great. anyways just wanted to drop a quick note because i saw that AccessMicro is selling the AMD 1800+ retail boxed for $114. on my Outpost.com receipt it shows that i was charged $124.69 for the cpu. the retail boxed 1800+ is $1 more than OEM @ their site, i wonder what moron would buy the OEM just to save a buck?? 🙂

Link to AccessMicro

thats a $10 difference so Amex will PM it for me. i am going to wait another couple weeks and hope that prices fall even more. this was a great deal at $165 (shipped) and even better with $10 or more off!
