I dl'ed from Majorgeeks, installed it and now my computer hangs at the XP slpash screen then reboots. Endless circle. OOPS!

I DLed from MS and had the same problem on my notebook. Safe mode, VGA Mode, Last Known Good, and Command Prompt modes didn't solve it either. Oh well, needed to format the entire hard drive anyway, I'll wait until SP3.1 is out. 😛

Microsoft link hahaha
I think that's a Release Candidate download.

Agreed, the Md5sum on the M$ link doesnt match what I have.

I downloaded from Medfly's server and it works fine. System even seems a little faster after installation. Thanks for hosting the file, was very fast download for me! 😉

Just curious, what d/l speed did you get?

I had to request an XP HotFix from Microsoft this week. I'd requested the same HotFix from Microsoft a month ago without incident. But now I need it again, since Microsoft date-limits its HotfFixe downloads.
What's the KB number?

Major Geeks download now says its RC2???

Weird, but when i install this, it just says 'Service Pack 3' under system properties. No numbers after it like on the betas and RC's.

So is this really the final??

1100KB/s per second.

Let me know how it works out. I installed SP3 RC2 on my Asus v2m mobo and the sound card would not work until it was uninstalled. Hopefully this is fixed.

You really want the RTM version not the RC2 version for stability. RC is release candidate (euphemism for BETA) while RTM is the Release to Manufacturers version, ie, for OEM systems and major system builders like dell (or anyone who still graciously sells XP on a new system).

Agreed, avoid rc candidates for anything other then testing purposes. No idea if major geek's ver is the RC or RTM, but mine is definitely the RTM.

As I understand it 5512 was the build number of RTM.

I downloaded from Major Geeks and in system information it clearly says its 5512, so RTM I'd assume.

I'm wondering if either MG have been told to pull it down, or are falsely stating its a RC to slow things down as their servers are getting hammered.

I dunno, its odd, but I've had zero problems with the service pack on two rigs so far.

So it's confirmed that the file on majorgeeks is the final one that will be/was released by MS to Technet/MSDN/Connect subscribers and ultimately the general public via update?

Hmm, I'm seeing Sunday, April 13, 2008 9:30:34 PM. MD5sum is the same.

The "Digitally signed" time of day varies, depending on which time zone your Windows system is set to. I'm in Eastern, and you must be in the Pacific Time Zone.

I'm waiting the extra four days until general RTM, since I don't have an MSDN or TechNet Plus subscription. I'd never dare install a Service Pack from a non-Microsoft source on any of my client's computers. I'm not in the mood to have to do this twice...or even worse.

I'd normally wait a couple of months before installing a new Service Pack, but I have one client that needs a patch that, I'm guessing, is included in SP3.

Medfly's file he's hosting is legit and the final version. Installed it on 3 pc's so far and no issues to report.

It comes right up for me and offers a "Save File" dialog box.
