Just a guess but I'm betting the 290x is a minimum of $650. I believe Nvidia is already trying to get amd into a price fixing scheme by releasing the upcoming price of the 780ti. It's pretty much saying to amd that here's the price for our card please don't go any lower than that otherwise we'll have to adjust pricing as well imo.

I am with you on the $650 for 290x. Anything less doesnt make sense. As for the normal 290.. well my guess is $500.

I think its quite possible the 780 is a little cheaper than the 290x bf edition. Notice the price is with bf4. It not exactly cheap in scandinavia.
It just goes to show the 290x is way faster for resolutions that matter for a card this quality. And that it wilm kill 780ti in bf. Who wants a nv card that sucks in dice newest engine and especially for the game that matters most.
So if its priced high its just a reflection of the performance.

Here in Norway a well known shop called "ProShop" have listed the XFX R9 290X. It will cost 5990NOK ($999).
In comparison, on the same webshop the majority of GTX 780 is listed from 4800NOK-5500NOK ($800-$924)

So, just curious, what was the real release price in Norway and is it consistent across the EU?

Norway that share the same prices as the rest of Europe.

I would be cautious before making such highly
clueless statements..

Surely the country in Europe with higher cost of living ,
even higher than in Switzerland wich has relatively low
prices for tech gear , i live in France and here you can find
it starting from 490 euros, VAT is 19.6% and included in theses
prices so Fudzilla were spot on when they said that price
excluding VAT would be 399€ for Europe and 549$ in the US.

Same as the rest of the world when you remove VAT and currency conversion. I think its down to 4200-4300NOK with VAT.

However, if you ordered when it said 5990NOK, you will pay 5990NOK unless you cancel your order and reorder with the lower price.

In the UK they are going for £430 inc vat. and Germany they are going for around €510.

The MSRP is €399 but then you have to include the vat which varies from country to country, as low as 15% in luxembourg, 19% in germany, 22% in the uk and can reach 25% in some countries.

There is only a USD MSRP. Everything else is via currency conversion.

For tech gear here in Germany, everything seems more expensive than the US, even if you ignore all taxes. I've noticed they just take the USD MSRP and change the $ to €. Vat is 19% here I think, so even if you remove that from the price and pretend it doesn't exist, it is still more expensive than the US price after currency conversion. (I'm sure there are exceptions but overall that seems to be the case.)
