*XFX 6600GT AGP AT NEWEGG!!!!*

Ok here is the scenario...

XFX 6600GT AGP is $225 at newegg

BFG 6800OC at outpost for $250.

What would be the better deal? Especially if you plan on keeping the card for a few years? It seems like the 6600Gt is clocked a hell of a lot higher then the 6800OC but does it perform that much better because of the added pipelines? Also BFg has a lifetime warranty.

If you were buying today what would you get?

They only have one brand in stock: wait till there are multiple brands of 6600GT in stock and the price will drop to 200 bucks making it look rather good as compared to the 9800Pro, which up until now was the undisputed midrange king.

The prices on the 6600GT's will be high for a while. I would say mid December they will go down. They are hot right now. Give it time and the price will go down to $200. I am glad to see XFX right out of the gate. I have an XFX 6800GT and have been using XFX in builds for months now. LOVE LOVE LOVE em!!!

I'd take the BFG 6800 OC for $25 more. It's a slightly better performer, comes with a lifetime warranty (for those that care about warranties), and has a good chance of unlocking pipelines/vertext shaders without artifacts.

The BFG is not $25 more... it is more like $125 more.

So, is the best bet to get this XFX 6600GT or should I get the daily special 9800 Pro AIW from Newegg?

I am thinking the AIW features would offset any gaming performance losses, especially since I am not a fanatic (in other words, I haven't learned to be so fussy yet... give me more time).

Vote now please!

I'm in about the same boat. I've decided to wait a month or so. Once the 6600gt comes out in full force, they'll start to drive the price of 9800pros down. Then, when the 6600gt's price has settled, I will make my choice.

How is that? It costs 250$ while the 6600 GT costs 225$
If you're talking about Cawchy87's link, well that's a 6800 GT (16pipes, 256mb RAM)

6800>6600GT

Why? Better performance, chance of unlocking extra pipelines, BFG card comes with Far Cry - you get all this for what $20-30 more?

But when 6600GT hits prices like $170-180 (what it retails for PCIe version), then it's certainly unbeatable.

The XFX version of 6600Gt comes clocked at 500/1000 or 100mhz higher than all other 6600GT cards.

So this makes the 6800 NU...$5 bucks more, so, a of right now this one is a no brainer. The 6600GT does beat the 9800 Pro in every test, so I will be interested to see how much the price falls.

the 6800nu is a much better choice @ $250. i thought people were informed here =P. by no means is the 6600gt a bad card however and if you can find it for <$200 that is a great deal.

MSRP on these cards is $200, so prices will be coming down soon. The 6800s are a far better deal at the current "new on market" prices, and will outperform these card by 20% at new games, 12X10 4X8X.

What is so great about the BFG's. I know the warranty is awesome. But I can get a leadtek 6800 for $20 less. Sell me on why I should go with a BFG

My bad! I was referring to Cawchy87's link.

Wimped out and got a 9800 Pro AIW ( a real one, not the Outpost fake ) since I need the TV viewing feature for this machine. Could have gotten a separate card but needed to do something quick so paid for convenience.

Every time I build a box, the "hunt" for the right components is always a challenge.... and fun..... and a big pain in the butt. So, 754 A64 3000, DFI UT etc, 9800 Pro AIW, and 1G of Hyperx (decent version) will have to do for now. Guess the old K6-266 will become scrap metal (not even worth that!). The P3 700 box will lose its top dog status.

Next machine, coming soon to a desk near me, will be PCIe and "better" video on a 939 NF4 board.

I was rather shocked to see that the price of this card was more than the PCI-E version, because I had read in an article somewhere that the AGP version would actually be less. shows how reliable they are 😡
Sometimes I envy how prices in the states are that much better than here in Canada. the lowest for a 6800 NU or OC is like 350 CDN. Hopefully the 6600 GT AGP will drop to 200 US during the holiday season.

I hear that Dell power supplies are underrated. I have a 400SC with a 250W power supply. I know people use 9800 Pros in their 400SCs, but can I run a 6600GT or 6800OC?

Hey Zodd

I don't think you'll have any problem running either card will Dell's ps. I have a 2 year old Dimension 4500 with that 250W ps - running 2 hard drives, 2 optical drives, FX5900 (requires that extra molex be plugged in), floppy drive, Audigy 2, WinXP + other peripherals. I've never had problems, not even a warning from ForceWare showing not enough voltage.

I did some research on this very issue BEFORE buying the FX5900 last Christmas. It's not that Dell under-rates their ps - the number that's given is AVERAGE output. So, that 250W rating is more like a 350-400W PEAK output.

BTW, be EXTREMELY careful is you ever change the power supply. It looks like and is identical to a normal ATX ps, but the wiring through the connector is different from ANY other ATX ps. You can cook your system is a second if the wiring is not identical!

Hope this helps!
