XenForo 2.0 Upgrade: Announcement and Feedback Thread

You can hide the left and right sidebars by clicking on the little tabs at the top right and left of the page (right sidebar is to the right of the big Orange/Blue reply button). Left is to the left of the AT logo at the top left of the page.
they dont seem to remember settings if you close out your browser session meaning you have to do this every time you visit.

I agree. I believe the one on the right is the Default theme, or very close to it. It's not the extra columns in the AnandTech style on the left that are the problem - those can be suppressed. It's the layout of the table and the information included in the Default that is superior.

In the Default, the original poster is shown, it's easier to see the number of replies and views, easier to click to the most recent post. IIRC, the New Posts page is also not broken.
agree with all of this

I am curious as to how they would "disable" Tapatalk. Are they detecting browser ID? What happens if you spoof a different browser ID?

This is so bad. You all lost probably 50% or more of the userbase at the last UI overhaul that wasn't needed and turned this forum into a ghost town. Now I'm pretty confident you will lose even more for making yet again, another change that wasn't needed.

I'm not a programmer so you'd know better than I, but I think they are stuck in the middle on whether to upgrade or stay stuck in the past. I'm on a Yankee forum which is very popular, but stuck in the 80's. There doesn't seem to be an alternative website worth a damn so you literally have to spend 30 mins to find a post you commented on to see if someone responded. By then it's burried past 4-5 pages within a few hours. Everything gets lost, people can have great responses but only the real stand out ones go anywhere. Half the time you feel like your on an ignore list. At least here you get likes or now dislikes. Let's not even talk about how cool embedding videos are, the other site you can't even copy paste text to.

It's actualy funny that this is a tech site with an old ass user base, but most have no patience and abandon ship if the slighest change is made to the forum.

I'm not sure I agree. I use a number of photography forums and some of the best ones (imho) such as fredmiranda and dpreview have stuck with the simple layout; while others (name not provided) have gone to the newer modern design (which I hate). I'm most concern about efficiency on the user. Now having said that I do not know which kind of site attracts the most new users but I'm happy the core sites I use have continued to not 'modernize' as you put it.

Dang I have to bite my tongue hard; dpreview did upgrade the forum recently and it sucks.

Can someone post an update if they add a way to make the border settings (removing right/left space) sticky and what needs to be done to make it sticky. Other than that and color scheme i'm personally not having any issue but i'm a light user. Actually I think they tweak the colors because it looks a lot better now but maybe that is just the bolder font. The color you get (background) is better when entering text than when text is display - just a wee bit too bright... imho.

the fact that i have to hide the left and right sidebars every time i visit the forums now is reason enough for me to simply not bother coming here anymore

Not only hiding left/right sidebars choice won't stick, every time I visit the forum it kept asking me to accept cookies even I have accepted it multiple times!

How do you hide the left sidebar? The behavior I see is that the left sidebar appears only when the browser window is 1200 or more pixels wide. Size the window smaller and it goes away.

* Edit *

Ahhhhh... I think I see how it works now... The menu button at upper left. When the browser window is less than 1200 pixels wide, it slides out a menu overlaying the page. But when the browser window is more than 1200px, it slides out a menu as a left sidebar. I'm surprised that many people are seeing that sidebar always come up. I wouldn't have thought many use a 1200+ pixel wide window.

My browser is always full (windowed) screen. Meaning nearly a full1920 x 1080. Most websites look fine and handle the extra space as filler.

Before the update, where I placed my mouse cursor over a thread title, it would show me how many pages and thus give me the option of clicking on a particular page, if I didn't want to go to the start or end of a thread.

This is a feature I very much appreciated and miss.

I can't even get to the site without using a proxy. I couldn't even post without disabling scripts. Am I banned? If not what changed between now and right after you first upgraded? I use Firefox 62.0.3 with noscript and ublock Origin but I could always get the site to work before. I can't even use Chrome to get the site to work. This link just brings up a blank page. https://forums.anandtech.com/

yeah, I just discovered that today. May have to go back to blocking these elements. Good going...

Can't really block the left bar forever, because it has the useful shortcuts: watched threads, forums, etc.

Also, main AT logo still locks up and doesn't go to AT home page. Main forums link doesn't go to forum page. Forum link from main AT page isn't going to forums. It seems that I can only get into forums because I already had it open in a tab, lol. (in Chrome)

You can safely block it and then the overlay menu will still be available, but if you have your browser window greater than 1200 pixels it won't work at all. This just demonstrates how badly this skin fails. Stupid attempt to try and anticipate user desires for a user interface based on window size. It fails on so many fronts that it's remarkable. I think (hope) that maybe the basic theme wasn't so bad, but perhaps someone tasked with modifying that theme didn't quite understand how it's supposed to work.

It would be nice if we could get the old forum list on the left side back instead of this new one which appears to be mostly useless and better off closed. The new one is terrible for navigation and makes going from forum to forum a much more involved task.

The forum link from the main site works for me. The home link at the bottom of the forum main page, which should go to the main site, does not.
