XBoxes Break Down In Record Numbers

"SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Hundreds of people who bought Microsoft's hot new Xbox game console over the holidays received defective systems, and some say they waited for weeks before the devices were fixed."

" The Associated Press spoke with about a dozen Xbox users who said the console never worked or soon froze up. Most called the customer service response poor. "

Where do they get the statement "Hundreds of people from"? They do a phone survey of a dozen people and conclude "hundreds" are defective? 😕

I re-read that article a few times and could find nowhere where they explain where they get the numbers of defective units.

Ok, for the sake of argument, let's say "hundreds" is 500 defective Xbox's.

"The stakes are high for Microsoft, which shipped about 1.5 million Xboxes over the holidays. "

500 faulty units out of 1.5million seems pretty reasonable to me...especially considering this is a brand new product launch.

Oh well...my Xbox works fine...even after I opened up an took it apart and put it back together...🙂

"XBoxes Break Down In Record Numbers"

What numbers? Link? Info? What record has been broken? Who originally set the record that the Xbox just "broke"? 😛 😉

no way dude, i played the f.uck out of my dreamcast but Xbox owns dreamcast far and away.. Halo, omg that would dropkick a dreamcast.

I've had an Xbox since launch and it works fine.

However, I got one for my brother two weeks ago from Virgin Megastore, and it acted very weird. You had to keep turning it off and on for a while, and finally it would go. We took it back the next day. Virgin told us they couldn't exchange it, and we had to deal with the warranty through Microsoft, so I pointed to their return policy, and walked to the return desk and said I don't want it. Then I walked back to the video game section and bought a new Xbox, and they couldn't do anything about it. 😛 I knew that if we sent it off, it would take a few weeks for a replacement.

BustaRhyme...and NewCompGeek.....go sit in the corner and take time outs....dont give me no lip about it neither.

"If 200 people have a really bad experience and they're vocal, then the impression is the product's bad,"

i'd like to see someone make a flash animation where the xbox dropkicks another console 😀

Having more than one company making a windows operating system would be hell. Imagine Microsoft Windows, RedHat Windows, Caledra Windows. Imagine all the incompatibilies there would be, it would be a huge mess.

I dont think it was the rate of failure that the article was looking at, more like how much their customer service sucked... thats what i got out of it...

<< Where does it say that Microsoft refused to fix them?

[sarcasm]I just have trouble believing that a highly anticipated product with high demand had almost a 1% failure rate, and that an outside repair contractor may have had difficulty obtaining replacement parts.[/sarcasm]

How in the world would this even come under consideration for a class action lawsuit?

How does 1% failure rate earn the term "break down in record numbers?" The article states that Nintendo reported similar failure rates for the Gamecube, I dont remember seeing your post thrashing Nintendo.

This wouldnt just be Anti-MS flame bit would it?

If it was broken out of the box why would you dick around with Microsoft and an RMA, just exchange/return it to the store, the Xbox is not so rare you cant hunt a new one down

About the only CD-ROM systems that didn't have hundreds of Break downs at launch were Dreamcast and Saturn. Even then, Dreamcast had problems reading certain disks (problems with drivers) and Saturn was... well... Saturns a friggin' tank. I've seen people pull them off a shelf during a game and they kept running without a problem. I don't remember what the Jaguar failure rate was so I can't complain. Neo Geo CD worked, but the thing was SLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

The first gen of PSX overheated. There are very few people who still have first gen PSX. Of those people who do, most of them probably have to turn the thing upside down to get it to run. The whole first release of PS2 was recalled in Japan due to driver problems as well as system errors. The first release of Phillips CDi brokedown with in weeks and had a recall. Now we have a 1% failure on Xboxes and people are claiming that the sky is falling. My goodness! The world is going to end because M$ is the king of all evil and Sony is just the little minion of evil. Boohoohoo. :frown:

<< all i gotta say is that 99.9 percent of us post from a windows rig.

If you don't know what you are talking about, stay out. Bot of you clearly are smoking something. 😉

j/k lol

Only part that matters in comparing systems.

Analysts say that's in line with the industry standard, and competitor Nintendo reported a comparable rate for its new GameCube.

Its just Microsoft Basher's jumping at a story

who say XBOX will lead in console game?
It never happen !!

XBoX SUCKS !!
Microsoft SUCKS !!

:|

PS2 Rules !!

because the stores are saying they can't take them back and you must go through MS. When Virgin told me this, I argued that in no way is this made evident at the time of purchase, and they let me return the broken console, even though the manager said that they would have to eat the cost of that console.

But no one is complaining about Nintendo's CS. Every time I've called/mailed/e-mailed their CS, they've been ultra polite, friendly, and have gone out of their way to make me happy. (This includes times when I was about 13 years old - would you take some 13 year old punk seriously? They did) This article is about MS and their lack of wanting to help consumers.

Wow, what a coincidence. I remember reading an article in the paper...either today or yesterday...and it was practically the same thing.
