I wonder if we'll see a timed exclusive thing: Exclusive for a year or for the current gen before releasing on another platform?

I can see making money off the "whales" first with an exclusive release, then once sales slow to a trickle (or the gen turns over) release prior gen's exclusive titles on the competing current gen platform as GOTY editions or whathaveyou.

I think when people say "death of Xbox" they are referring specifically to the Xbox consoles. The Xbox platform will exist for a long time imo that ain't going anywhere.

I'm referring to the console. My point with the Surface was MS can make hardware while selling the same software it runs to other hardware makers. I can def see the Xbox following the same path.

Times when games where all time exclusives for one console only are far away, now game developers understand that in order to maximize their profit they need to extend to other platforms as well, and especially Microsoft who always used to offer their exclusive games on PC as well. I actually like it, because I am more of a PC gamer and I like to replay my old console games with a much better quality and graphics.

Largest technical leap ever without a disc drive? Are they going to offer an external Bluray drive? What are they going to do for the leap? Use 8P/4E Raptor Lake Refresh with ARC Battlemage?

I believe Phil is talking about a future console several years from now and not this refresh.

Are they going to offer an external Bluray drive?

Possibly.

What are they going to do for the leap? Use 8P/4E Raptor Lake Refresh with ARC Battlemage?

Current speculation is talking about Zen 5/RDNA5 (or past that, depending on how long from now). If AMD gets scalable chiplets working, there is the opportunity to go crazy if MS wants. But I would not want to know what the price would be... Multiple SKUs would for sure be needed.

Who would want an all digital xbox series X for $450? I'm glad I picked up a normal version in Dec. for $100 bucks less. I only wish I enjoyed consoles.

Game Pass is getting a price hike to $30/month. Hilariously bad. My subscription ends on 12/30 and I won't continue.

I will preface this by saying I've never had gamepass nor have I ever had any interest in it, but I always thought it was a terrible idea (for MS) to put day 1 games on gamepass. I know multiple people who would find cheap 1 month passes just to "purchase" brand new games on day 1, and they would be finished within a month.

I also know someone who has been subscribed to it forever (and just canceled it with this news) who will start games and not finish them because he "didn't purchase them" and just doesn't feel like he has the obligation to do it. Like he was playing Silk Song and loves it, but took a break because it was tough and he needed a break, then bought Ghost of Yotei and now has no interest in going back to it because he doesn't have the time.

That's what I would do, buy one month of PC Game Pass every time a game I wanted to play came out. Then cancel immediately. So basically a $10 rental. Or back when Gamestop sold $5 XBox cards I would just use my monthly $5 credit from their Pro membership (when it was $10 a year) to pay for my PC Game Pass every time a game I wanted came out. It was moronic for XBox but oh well mostly free first run game rentals from combining the incompetence of XBox and Gamestop worked well for a while.

Though a couple of times they offered me $1 14-day trials so I'd do those when something I wanted to play came out and make sure I finished the game in that trial period. So $1 rentals lol.

I rarely ever finish games. Lack of consistent gaming time and a lot of times I just lose interest. Cronos new dawn really got my attention so I'm definitely finishing that but other very large titles, if something else comes out that seems more interesting, I'll buy it and if it keeps my attention I'll continue playing it.

Took me so long to finish ghost of Tsushima on PS5 because I got suckered into doing side content that ended with me getting bored of the game. Luckily in ghost of Yotei, all the side stuff ties into the main story and is more engaging and interesting so I'm enjoying this title much more.

Think I'm the opposite. I almost always complete games I start unless I don't like them, but then after finishing a game I often won't touch another one for weeks. Like I finished DK Bananza maybe 3 weeks ago and the only time I have touched a game since then was the 2P mode on Bananza to help my 7 y.o. nephew get through when he comes by one the weekends since he loves the game. Not very fun for me but I figure it's a good way to get him reading practice doing something he likes (I make him read everything out) as opposed to feeling like it's a chore.

I find myself not too far off from you. It takes a lot for me to finish a game these days, but in my defense, I think that has more to do with the yearly releases of the same games with little enough in them to keep my interest. I find that I lose interest quicker for games that get paint jobs but are the same games.

I think I finish most games I play, if I'm actually into them. Sometimes I trail off and promise to return, yet rarely do.
