How long does it take to load a fairly average world? I've seen it load on the Xbox One S, and whew... whenever I get asked "want to play Minecraft?", I just say, "I'll use my PC for it."

I need to try it again, but it wasn't as fast I expected it to be. Certainly faster than the One, but still seemed slower than my PC (running Windows 10 version of Minecraft) which is pretty old (i7-6700) and only has a SATA SSD. I have no idea why Minecraft is so slow to load on Xbox...

Is Minecraft resource intense? I was going to get it for my son on Switch at some point just so he can play it wherever. But if it runs like crap on there compared to the new consoles I may rethink that.

It can be, if you make some complex contraptions or stack a ton of TnT it can slow down massively, but those are edge cases. Draw distance can effect performance also, this should be tuned well for the console it is running on though. General play should be fine, but I have no experience on the switch. The main issue on console is loading times.

Just saw that the Series X and S stock issues will most likely not be resolved until April 2021

makes me wonder what their 'supplies' are - all of two units for the county? are they going to 'last' for even few seconds?

Honestly, I'm OK with that. I'm not really interested in buying the new XBox console until I have a shiny new version of Halo or Forza to show off the console's new features.

In other words, Walmart's servers will "crash" * at 3PM, and they'll be out of stock by 3:02 PM.

By 3:30 PM, you'll see new posts on eBay for those XBox Series X's for about $1,400.

* And by "crash", I mean that their firewall rules will be mysteriously tweaked for 2 minutes so only their buddies IP address ranges can get in. Everyone else will get a socket timeout error and think that the site is down.

Review I read was 60 FPS most of the time on the Switch, unless in jungle biome.

That said, the Switch can't be that much faster (has to be slower than?) the One, where it arguably ran like butt. If you can run it on a beefier console I would.

Would make a super fun portable game on the switch for single player use, but it seems more fun with others. The discoveries and things you build are part of the reason the game is popular sharing them and my kids constantly want me to log in with them to play.

Series X loads much, much quicker than the One. Honestly never played it on the PC so not a great judge of the difference, I just have seen it played on there. I would venture if you are on the PC with all the available tweaks and add on (plus longer draw distances still?) I doubt coming back to the console would have much draw.

That is, until the RTX version comes out. Someday.

It'll be nice when Minecraft RTX gets out of beta finally. The huge limitation of it being in beta is that you can only have a single Minecraft instance installed at once, which means you have to choose normal or RTX, and the two are not on the same version. It's part of the reason why Minecraft RTX is knd of useless after the first loaded world or two are you realize that you can only play with fellow RTX players. (Unless there's some workaround that I haven't seen.)

Yes, pretty much as expected - walmart.com is down right now

Yeah that was a total shit show. That bot sucked too I was faster trying manually.

it was weird
- actual page loads, shows in stock and allows us to add it cart, however
- getting to the actual check out process is impossible, going to cart would crash completely, on walmart app or website. the app wanted for you to use the thumbprint to prove you are human (ok)
- checking out was actually impossible, it would get you all the way through the process and then declare it is out of stock

did they actually sell anything? who knows

overall strange experience ,not sure I will be trying these again. I rather know up front whether there is one to purchase or not , and if not - rather not waste my time.

I also dont get people buying this on secondary market, what about things like warranty?

You still get manufacture warranty on secondary market.

And if something goes wrong with your console, you are likely to get a newer/repaired one by sending it into Sony/MS than you are waiting for retailers to get them in stock where you can just exchange it.

Best Buy has 3 month game pass ultimate cards for $22.99(half off). You can buy multiple if you buy each one in a separate transaction. When you redeem the code, the website will ask you to turn on recurring billing to get a free month so you get 4 months. I redeemed 3 cards and got 3 months free so I now have access to game pass ultimate for a full year for $68(regularly $180). At which point you can cancel if you want or turn off recurring billing. You can get the physical cards or have them email you the digital code.

Do you have to turn off recurring billing between each card?

Xbox games will soon be streamed directly to TVs, no console needed

Soon consumers will be able to play Xbox games in their living room without owning an Xbox console.

Xbox is no longer a console, but a service offered on consoles, PCs, mobile phones, and soon smart TVs. Microsoft's Project xCloud tech will allow direct game-to-TV game streaming possibly as soon as 2021, Xbox boss Phil Spencer says in a new interview with The Verge.

Spencer says we could see an Xbox app emerge sometime in the next 12 months, but is careful to say that the best cloud gaming experiences will require a hybrid of local and streaming tech. Latency is a big issue and Spencer says dedicated console and PC gaming isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

"I think you're going to see [an Xbox app on TVs] in the next 12 months. I don't think anything is going to stop us from doing that," Spender said.

"...Now, as you said, a TV is really more of a game console stuffed behind a screen that has an app platform and a Bluetooth stack and a streaming capability. Is it really a TV anymore or is it just the form and function of the devices that we used to have around our TV, consolidated into the one big screen that I'm looking at?

"I do think you're going to see hardware change."

In the same interview, Spencer also re-confirmed the Xbox Series S and Series X consoles won't be the last Xbox hardware that Microsoft creates.

"I don't think these will be the last big pieces of hardware that we ship."

Another important part was the downplaying of cloud-only gaming.

"When we think about the evolution of our game platform, it's really more of a hybrid game platform between edge and cloud that we're shooting for.

"When we think about xCloud, which is our version of Stadia or Luna, I think what it needs to evolve to are games that actually run between a hybrid environment of the cloud and the local compute capability, and that they can actually take full advantage of the cloud that's there and that's available, but also full advantage of my edge compute capability that I have in my home in the console. It's really a hybrid between both of those.

"That's, I think, the compute model that most people are going to move to with most app development, a hybrid model between edge and the cloud where things that - either from a security, or latency, or even cost and bandwidth standpoint - can be done locally, should be done locally, and things that really could use the scale that you can get through cloud, and be able to light up multiple blades to deliver whatever experience you want to deliver to somebody, would use the power of the cloud.

Direct game-to-TV streaming is something we've long predicted.

This concept is an evolution of Microsoft's aspirations with the cancelled Project Hobart; a small, NVIDIA Shield-like set top box designed specifically for game streaming. Instead, Microsoft could roll out an Xbox Stick to plug directly into a TV's HDMI slot, or even design a Project xCloud app natively to run on smart TVs without any extra hardware.

Microsoft will reach many millions more consumers and fold them into the Xbox ecosystem. The Xbox TV app will introduce more people into the brand and likely push them to upgrade to dedicated hardware--or play games on-the-go via mobile. Either way, the incentive is clear: playing games regardless of where you are in a form factor and frictionless way that doesn't waste your time.

____________________

When they start to do this. Is when I will stop purchasing games. More than likely anyway, the Xbox One X will probably be the LAST console I purchase from Microsoft. I have no need for the new ones that were just launched. I always wait till 10 games is released that I want. So in 3 years, ill pick up a PS5. Then I am done purchasing consoles. Unless it is the older ones. I still need a Gamecube, PS2 and a Dreamcast. Then I have them all. Except for the X1X and PS5.

If/When they do that and get rid of standalone games and consoles is when I will stop supporting anything Xbox.
I think it does mention, that the Xbox Series X / S.....won't be the last "hardware" they build and ship. But still. The X1X will be it for me. I won't go any newer than that anyway, except for the PS5 <--maybe ? Im pushing 50 years old now. So yea..by the time I get a PS5....ill be about 52.....and doubt anything comes after that. Because by then I will probably have over 1000 games in my collection to play anyway. I still have a crap ton of games to finish as well. Off the top of my head, I would say right now I have about 230 maybe. Which dont count towards the 327 games I have "unplayed" on Steam.
