Xbox Series X.

So that's the naming scheme they decided to go with.

I wonder if there will be a more powerful version called the Xbox Series XXX. ;)

It will be interesting to see what these new gen consoles can really do when they launch next year.

This feels like the Wii and Wii U naming all over again. Kid has a one X already and wants a new console, parents go into the store and see the series X and the PS5. Kid already has the X one, def doesn't have the 5 one. Kid gets a ps5. People are not bright when it comes to marketing.

I skipped the XBox One and I will skip this as well.

Whatever games I do want to play on the XBox seem to be on the PC (with the exception of the older XBox 360 and 1st XBox games).

I like the look.. but that is about it.

I hope you can use it on it's side. I don't think it will fit in my entertainment center standing up, and I would hate to have to pass on it because of that.

According to this article, you can have it horizontal or vertical.

https://www.theverge.com/2019/12/12/21016575/microsoft-xbox-series-x-next-xbox-console

The console itself is designed to be used in both vertical and horizontal orientations, and Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, promises that it will “deliver four times the processing power of Xbox One X in the most quiet and efficient way.”

Here's a trailer of Hellblade 2 that was supposedly captured in real time on new console.

I know nothing about Hellblade but that trailer has peaked my interest.

I can't wait to see what Ninja Theory and Obsidian will be able to make with Microsoft's money backing them now.

Yep, don't understand the name. They'd be better off just calling all future consoles "Xbox" and calling it a day at this point.

Leaning into the whole "box" part of the name, I see. Not sure if this is uglier than the alleged PS5 design or not.

If I remember correctly the wording was specifically "rendered in engine" and not real time. Does make me want to find the first game on sale though.

From the link I posted right above the post with the trailer...

Microsoft isn’t talking GPU performance specifics just yet, but Spencer has dropped some hints in an interview with GameSpot, and the graphics you see in the Hellblade 2 trailer were supposedly captured in a game engine, running on the console, in real-time.

Still not confirmed though.

You can play the 1st Hellblade through gamepass on PC or Xbox. So sign up for a $1 for 3 months and go to town.

Well worth it at $1, it is a short game (~8 hrs), fairly simple (combat is kind of uninspired), but very atmospheric and has a good story. It was a project made by 20 people I think, when Ninja Theory almost went out of business. Super impressive for that fact alone. Excited to see what they can do with a proper budget.

If you like the music, it is Heilung (they are collabing on the soundtrack for the game), here is the song live

They say it is like 2 Gamecube consoles stacked.

Wow... it really does look like a small form factor gaming PC.

It might be fun to rip the guts out of one of these and do a Mini ATX PC build with it a few years from now.

I think the problem is the next gen GPUs aren't even in production yet from AMD and the dev kits are just who knows what, some random approximation with a Radeon VII or similar card?

meh, I lost interest in xbox when they would allow me to play quite a few 360 games on the One, don't see how this will change my mind.
