Yup I think there is always an issue with online titles and quick resume. Same thing happens on PS5.

I'm going to buy Halo infinite for pc when it comes out. I haven't touched Halo since probably the OG Xbox.

I hear good things about the campaign too, but coop is delayed for like 6 months. I'm going to wait to play it until coop comes out. I haven't played Halo since the OG either and it was always coop which is what makes it the best imo.

So Halo Infinite campaign has no pre load. Game is NOT playable on the launch day(today) until 6PM UK time which is 1PM eastern. More than half the launch date has passed before you can even start downloading it. Even worse is the physical disc is just a DRM check and it launches the download from the server. There is no actual game content on the disc. This is the first time any game on any console has been digital only with no pre load ability and no content to install from the disc. They are treating the game as the MP portion and the campaign as DLC add on for it, thus no pre load. So much for “physical games can play without internet” if you need internet to install the game. 343 already got backlash over some MP decisions and this isn’t making people too happy. I was looking forward to playing this morning when I got off work, have to wait until tomorrow. Why they didn’t do a midnight launch is beyond me.

I will probably wait until the game is like $20 to buy it. I think it's going to drop in price very quickly because they are just pushing it so hard and the whole MP is free, with the Campaign being included in gamepass.

But your preload comments are wrong. You can preload it. It says so right in the article you posted. My buddy downloaded it yesterday as well.

May be different on the PC, but nothing pre-loaded on top of the MP so far. The install is only 26GB which I believe hasn't changed in weeks.

Ah maybe it was on the PC I didn't ask him. He just said he preloaded it on gamepass. That article states Xbox though but who knows. Even after MS said the multiplayer was available to download when they released it early, it was still hours before it was actually available.

No you downloaded the multiplayer not the campaign. The campaign will have an additional 20GB download or so. If you don’t have the MP portion that will download as part of the campaign. 343 posted the time a couple days ago and it immediately caused a stir to say the least lol.

I do kind of feel bad for people who took a day off work to play it not knowing and then wasting a day.

Those times are when you can play it not download it.

And I didn't download anything. My buddy did. I downloaded the MP but never played it.

EDIT:

I asked my buddy about it again and apparently he DIDN'T preload it so my bad. He thought he did but he said it's just like a UI to actually download the full game or something, and when he clicks on it, it takes him to the preorder page.

I was all set for gaming this winter with BF2042 and Halo and they are both really underwhelming in different ways.

Greed is killing game development or I'm just getting older. But even the twenty something's I know on the consoles are disappointed in a lot of this shit.

Well, I tried to play but from the start I have no dialogue audio. People move their lips, captions show, but can't hear anything.

Right that’s what I mean. Now that the game is actually released if you click campaign it asks for permission to initiate a download and then a window pops up in the UI, which is terrible and 343 admits to limitations with their method, and you can select various content to install. This is how all future map packs etc will be I assume. The game is different than others I have experienced in that they have their own launcher and download system that doesn’t process through the Xbox live system. It pops up an Xbox live prompt for permission to download then everything is inside their UI.

The biggest issue for me is releasing a physical disc with no data to install on the disc except installing their launcher and UI. Having to download the whole game digitally makes the physical disc useless. Shouldn’t have even released a disc if you ask me.

The biggest thing I see is “supposedly this was 6 years of development and it doesn’t show”. Or with the yearly copy and paste games that are getting stale there are the usual complaints.

They are still popular but I do see a vocal group who is not really happy with certain things, as you said.

Halo is worth it. It's just a bit underwhelming due to some lack of features such as more maps at launch, playlists, forge and coop being delayed and a generally wacky armor system.

Coop campaign is going to be a lotta lotta fun. In May. But I can't wait.

BF2042 on the other hand is more of a hot mess with just flashes of great potential.

That's how Flight Simulator is. You download the game and run it, but the installation process is handled inside the game.

It doesnt matter. Nowadays so many games need launch updates and constant patches that a disc is useless anyway.
And modern consoles dont just let you install and play right from the disc. You HAVE to go online and let it know its part of your account and check for updates even if you dont want to.
I actually like Gog because you can just download the installer and save it for the day your internet goes down.

While I do think greed is a bit more transparent these days, game development doesn't seem to be wrought with issues that we haven't really seen before. In development in general, one of the things that hurts a lot is when you deal with an overall team with poor leadership. I doubt that I'm surprising anyone with that sort of "revelation", but it's the people with the overall vision that keep the project from getting away from you. It's the people in power that need to step up to the suits that push bad ideas. (I can't tell you how often I've seen failures due to upper management not being willing to say "no".). I wonder if Halo Infinite was not planned to be an open world game to begin with, but that was added in later on.

It's a bit off topic for this thread, but in regard to awkward development, I'd like to know a lot more minutia about Amazon's New World's development.

Those greedy jerks at Microsoft and Seagate jacked up the price of the XBox Series S/X storage expansion card from $149 to to $219 bucks.... just in time for the release of Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite.

It's like Microsoft was thinking "Hey XBox Series S owners! We know you'll need a storage expansion now, so prepare to get screwed on pricing!". Grr.

? it was released at $219 last year, lowest I ever saw it was maybe $20 less. They have a 512GB size one now that is $139.

I swear that it was around $149 on Black Friday, or was I just imagining that?
It was always over $200. I remember doing the math and thinking you may as well buy a series X. Although you could get your hands on an S much easier, so there's that.

Either way, it's highway robbery considering that you can buy a 1 TB external SSD for around $120.

Agreed. It's a rip off. When I saw the pricing for that, because I considered getting an S, I was like fuck you Microsoft, that's greedy as hell.

USB isn't nearly fast enough. For something that would meet the PS5 spec $200 might not be that far off given you kinda need the heatsink.
