Those videos aren't incredibly impressive. "Halo" and "Munches
Oddysee" look like they both have potential, but games like "Amped"
looked like crap compared to existing PS2 titles such as SSX.
Did anyone else notice the pop in problem with "Nightcaster", this
is something that gets criticized on the PSX and has no place in
a next-gen title.

None of the games are finished, they have 6-8 more months to go. While Doom 3 on the other hand won't be out till Q4 '02.. And if anyone says it will ship sooner, is an idiot, if it doesn't ship this Christmas, which it won't, it will ship next.

I can wait for Doom3. It's not like I am in a rush to buy a GeForce3. It will be at least Q2 2002 before good DX8/GeForce3 titles start coming out anyway.

LOL! How on earth can you praise a game you haven't even seen yet (Doom 3)? That Mac presentation gave us glimpse of a preliminary engine and all they showed were lighting and shadow effects and a low-framterate head/skull spinning around. Get a grip. :)

Exactly. Doom 3 is supposed to be an FPS game.. but all I saw was slow moving creatures with cool lighting effects. (still cool though).

Four words. John Carmack, programming god.

By Q2 2002 the GeForce3 will be a dinosaur and the GeForce5 will be out.

Um, I'm a Carmack fan, too, but his presence in no way guarantees a good game. In fact the Quake derivatives are pretty mediocre. What you can count on though is a brilliant 3D engine that blows everything else away. Give that engine to someone like Warren Spector and watch him work.

Quake 1 - 3 all pretty much sucked. The engines rocked though. Doom is another story, because it's, well, Doom!

Doom is the same. You just kill monsters and stuff over and over again. Well... thats the old doom anyway. I musta played that game a million hours.

I think most of you guys are really impressed with the screen shots, and are just bad mouthing them because you didn't expect the graphics to live up to the hype.

Everyone of you are stupid if you say that the pics shown are bland and un-impressive. Everyone of those games look way better than those on the PS2 currently, and even I didn't think that would be the case.

OMG! WoodchuckCharlie admits Xbox having potential. Weren't you the one bad mouthing the xbox? Maybe I got the wrong person... any way, glad you saw the light, I mean the dark side. ;)

New Engine + Movie

New Game +movie

EDIT 2-

Halo looks much better in IGN, cause the pics are at 640x480 (the way its supposed to be).

Link

EDIT 3 -

Daily Rader sucks. IGN pics are much clearer then theirs.

i too was reserved about the true power of the xbox..but after seeing these shots..im very impressed..add to the fact that these are merely the first party titles with 3rd parties still yet to show us what theyve got to offer makes it more exciting..afterall...think of what Capcom, Sega, Konami are going to pump out on this system.

Can't wait. :)

I just finished downloading the 88MB movie. The shadows and the lighting looks real. IMO, it looks better then the shadows and lighting on DOOM 3.

I...can't....wait...for....Doom 3!!!!

Even if the graphics are surpassed by another game, I will still get it, stick up for it and love it. Graphics aren't the only thing that makes a game good. It really helps, but still. :)

The game looks so freakin' scary!! :)

I'll stick to my PC. PS 2 after that, then Dreamcast.

Xbox just seems like another cheap computer, don't like the idea very much.

Tech specs are just vaporware, how do we know if it is really this powerful?

Because we said so. Isn't that enough?

LMAO!!

I think the alpha Doom3 engine looks better than the one in the 80MB BloodLust AVI. Don't get me wrong, BloodLust looks cool, perhaps second place to Doom3 in my book.

All the XBox stuff I have seen so far is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Old Carmack is pushing the envelope once again.

Am I the only one who is not blown away by Halo? Everyone thinks claims it looks so great but for the life of me I just don't see it.

Anyway, I will stick with my Dreamcast and PC for now. When fall rolls around we will see what the final XBox and GC offerings look like.

Well, not all the games shown, were anywhere close to being finished, Amped(sp?) was lacking the character animation, Project Gotham was three(3) weeks into development... Thats why its called "Project". Halo was hyped, thats what three years of E3 will do(soon to be 4). Munchs looked better than Halo. Somehow I doubt Gotham will be a launch title, but thats not to bad for three weeks of work(IMHO). Wait till E3, these are just the "first" party "launch" titles. Yep the Doom III engine looks good, its not going to be finished for awhile and there will be no chance of a game based on the engine shipping before Q4 2002, so its kinda a moot point.

boy, Gamestock seemed very disappointing. I was expecting more visually impressive treats for the Xbox. Seems like Gamespot agrees. Xbox will have to do a lot better than this.

Its funny how so many scoff at the xbox.
Its not like the designers of a new major gaming system don't know what people want.
The games look sweet, the machine has MORE then enough power to drive them.
Then people complain that these nice high res. graphics won't do justice on your old tv.
Well hey, your tv sucks, ever hear of upgrading? ;)

I mean, people bash m$ products all the time.
But, you think they are going to put out complete lame crap?
Its not like the resources are not there.
