The price of new units is controlled by the manufacturers. That's why there are news stories out when Sony, M$ or Nintendo "lower prices" -- it's not just wholesale prices, but the controlled resale prices. Bundling games or accessories is the only way discounters can sweeten the retail deal w/o lowering the new unit price (eg. Costco, Target, Frys).

My roommate who works for Blockbuster says they are gonna lower the price for all 3 systems. The employees have already been given new signs/flyers reflecting the price. He just doesn't know when.
