From FW

Blockbuster is now selling the playstation 2 and xbox at 149.99 and Gamecube for 99.99. These are new units and not refurbs or rented machines. Not sure if it is for only a select time or staying at that price.

I checked 7 or 8 local Blockbusters and they all told me the same thing: "We're no longer selling game consoles and we don't have any in stock." :frown:

Update the title to YMMV as all the the blockbusters in my area HAVE consoles and they are at the same old prices (179 and 149)

Agree with Host Visions, PLEASE update the title to read a BIG YMMV! Called all 4 stores near my home and the standard reply was: "The Xbox was not selling so we sent them all back." Apparently Blockbuster does not sell console anymore. You might have found the 1-in-a-hundred store that actually had some left. Anyone who reads your title is going to get overly excited (like I did) and then highly disappointed (like I did) when they learn the truth.

My store has them yet they still ring up at $179 and the clerk knew nothing of a sale (xbox), figure this was a one store only thing or something, unless a BB employee chimes in with a price change notice to all stores...

The price of new units is controlled by the manufacturers. That's why there are news stories out when Sony, M$ or Nintendo "lower prices" -- it's not just wholesale prices, but the controlled resale prices. Bundling games or accessories is the only way discounters can sweeten the retail deal w/o lowering the new unit price (eg. Costco, Target, Frys).

"Called all 4 stores near my home and the standard reply was:"
operative word is "called"
speak to more than one person at each location?

Stores can sell them for whatever they want. I know FAO was selling GCs for $99 awhile back.

My roommate who works for Blockbuster says they are gonna lower the price for all 3 systems. The employees have already been given new signs/flyers reflecting the price. He just doesn't know when.

Now I have to find a blockbuster that still carries the XBOX and camp outside...

A friend of mine who worked at Walmart also told me about this price drop. All he could say was September, he did not know an exact date.

Somewhere on IGN's answer question section, I saw a post saying Gamecube's were going to come down to $100 in September. Will try and find the link...
