I won $500 from an electronics store, what game system should I buy? I am thinking xbox, or ps2 is what I will probably get, which one would you recommend, and if not a game system, then what should I get?

get ps2... simply because of the number of games out there for it...

plus, you can copy ps2 games ...er i mean backup

XBox

Ooh wow one game has clipping....it must make the whole system suck. Moron

That one game has enough clipping to fill the worlds clip needs for the rest of time. No, I do not like that system, and there are many reasons. I do not feel that it has lived up to the enormous hype it was given. Oh by the way, I was being sarcastic.

Edit: Almost forgot... MORON

probably not the fault of the system but of the game programmers

ok so why is it that not too many people seem to like the xbox? I was leaning towards the xbox just because it is more advanced than the ps2, and it has the harddrive, does anyone have positive experiences with the xbox?

I had all 3 consoles at one time... recently sold the XBox. Didn't enjoy the games as much as the PS2. Plus with all the bad publicity and failing rumors I don't see spending all that cash on a possibly dying system as good idea.

Still waiting for some good gamecube games but for now PS2 rules!

I would say XBOX. And you might want to wait till after E3 and see the lineup for the XBOX. GTA3, MGS2, and others might be coming to the XBOX.

I like my xbox, but I will be living with my friend for the rest of college so we will have: xbox, ps2, dreamcast, N64, sega genesis, sega, super nintendo and nintendo.

what do you consider more advanced. the X-Box's GPU is the most advanced of the big 3, but the PS2 is the only one with a true 128 bit processor. The Gamecube is the most reliable of the big 3 (the other 2 have a tendency to go defective, nothings as much fun as a $300 paper weight). There are only a very few games I've found interesting on the X-box. The GameCube has about 5 or so I know of that are out or are coming out that look interesting. Just remember these things as far as games go. PS2 and GameCube have Squaresoft (yes Nintendo and Squaresoft have made up and FFXI will be on the gamecube). GameCube will have the Resident Evil series from now on. GameCube also has Zelda, Metroid, and Mario games. And don't forget one of the greatest things about the PS2, the greatest hits list games. Of the 3 PS2 is the only one known for price dropping games significantly once they sell a certain amount. It should all come down to which one has the games that interest you most.

OK, I hope that helps.

There's a few people here who have the xbox and it didn't live up to their expectations as of the past 3 months and they have to refuse it being worthwhile instantly.

If some of the gamers on this board know, Sony PS2 didn't have anything special the first 9 months either. Madden 2001, Onimusha, Summoner, and Smuggler's Run were all pretty decent games, and in some cases great like Onimusha...just too short and didn't make the 50 dollars you just plopped down as gratifying. Similar thoughts with the Xbox after the initial launch. It had a great launch, but its "exclusive" games from the past 3 months have been rather dull and dry, and the third party games mostly all making the same stuff on PS2 - although slightly inferior in graphics, sound, features, and slower load times. The PS2 is an awesome system right now, don't get me wrong. Great content, but the past 3 months have been in a lull as well. As has been proved time and time again over the 20+ years of the video game industry, is that the best sales are during the 4th quarter, specifically the console game business. So we see fewer and fewer good games as the business gets more cutthroat with the glutton of inferior games coming out on all systems.

All is well once Christmas 2002 comes around. It is gonna be a bloodbath by May E3 when we see some competitive price drops and new additions added such as internet capability. The resulting competition between the big three and even the individual third party software makers.

That's what I foresee, and you will be happy cuz prices will drop and some great games will be here soon. I wish they'd release good stuff all the time though.

Get both an Xbox and PS2. If you want to get them now, I'd recommend finding a used PS2 and just go with a new Xbox, unless you can find a used Xbox. I got my PS2 for $170 and my Xbox for $250. You can find people that are unhappy with any system they purchase and just wanna get rid of it. Even gamecubes 🙂 Which I'm selling to a friend for $150 because I've not been happy with it.
