There's a few people here who have the xbox and it didn't live up to their expectations as of the past 3 months and they have to refuse it being worthwhile instantly.
If some of the gamers on this board know, Sony PS2 didn't have anything special the first 9 months either. Madden 2001, Onimusha, Summoner, and Smuggler's Run were all pretty decent games, and in some cases great like Onimusha...just too short and didn't make the 50 dollars you just plopped down as gratifying. Similar thoughts with the Xbox after the initial launch. It had a great launch, but its "exclusive" games from the past 3 months have been rather dull and dry, and the third party games mostly all making the same stuff on PS2 - although slightly inferior in graphics, sound, features, and slower load times. The PS2 is an awesome system right now, don't get me wrong. Great content, but the past 3 months have been in a lull as well. As has been proved time and time again over the 20+ years of the video game industry, is that the best sales are during the 4th quarter, specifically the console game business. So we see fewer and fewer good games as the business gets more cutthroat with the glutton of inferior games coming out on all systems.
All is well once Christmas 2002 comes around. It is gonna be a bloodbath by May E3 when we see some competitive price drops and new additions added such as internet capability. The resulting competition between the big three and even the individual third party software makers.
That's what I foresee, and you will be happy cuz prices will drop and some great games will be here soon. I wish they'd release good stuff all the time though.
Get both an Xbox and PS2. If you want to get them now, I'd recommend finding a used PS2 and just go with a new Xbox, unless you can find a used Xbox. I got my PS2 for $170 and my Xbox for $250. You can find people that are unhappy with any system they purchase and just wanna get rid of it. Even gamecubes 🙂 Which I'm selling to a friend for $150 because I've not been happy with it.
