Xbox One vs Wii U + Ps Vita

Hey guys well I am a college student home for the holidays, and my parents bought an Xbox One.

I had bought a PS4 on release, but I was disappointed with it, it seemed like a PS3 with a few extra lights, and better graphics, so I ended up selling it and made a profit.

Anyways, I really enjoy the Xbox One my parents have, it just seems like a whole different experience, not to mention the games are more appealing to me.

I already beat Ryse, and I absolutely loved it, but wanna go back and beat it on higher difficulties etc.

So I found a deal on eBay, and for $450 from a reputable seller who has only opened it to check the BluRay drive, I can get a Day One Xbox One with Dead Rising 3, which is another game I am interested in, for $450.

Now, I am also a COD fan, but have not played console games for years, as I really got into PC gaming, but I wanna get back into COD, and start playing multi again.

I am worried that I am going to run out of games however.

My other option I am considering is buying a Wii U and a PS Vita.

I have had a Vita before, but it was on release, and there weren't many games I was interested in out, now there are games such as Persona 4, and several other RPGs I am interested in.

The Wii U also looks like fun, and I want to give Monster Hunter 3 a shot, as well as Xenoblade, as I never had a Wii. And I am sure there are many other games I would find interesting.

I have a pretty well spec'd gaming PC at the moment.

So what do you guys think I should do??

Thanks for looking :)

Since you seem impatient to wait for the games catalog to increase on something a month old then you should get the WiiU and Vita.
Of course over time, their library of titles for those systems will dwindle as the Xbone increases. Xbox will have much higher support from 3rd parties than the other 2 systems, even Sony doesn't seem to care about the Vita.

Well I guess I am being kind of impatient.

I just don't wanna spend money on something and then not have any games for it.

But there are quite a few coming out in the coming months.

Would it be worth waiting a month or two for the price of used Xbox's to drop in price on eBay and such?

I don't think even the used Xbox's will drop too much below retail within a couple months unless their in bad shape. Consoles hold their value pretty well for a while.
You basically just want something to hold you over but at a bad time. On one hand the Xbox library is too small but with a great future. On the other the Wii U has a library you would like but their future libraries look a little grim on the outlook, many 3rd parties like EA are ignoring the WiiU. The Vita hasn't been fairing too well either and Sony has ignored marketing it much but they both currently have a nice library.

You could sell the Wii U and Vita later on. You could just get either the Wii U OR Vita and save some of that money for a future Xbox. Depends on your financial situation in 2014. If you can afford to get an Xbone later, I would go that route and choose just either the U or Vita depending which has the most titles you want.

I was in a similar situation when I decided not to invest anymore in PC gaming. I chose to wait on PS4 to hold out for more games, wasn't fond of what Vita had going on and looked at Nintendo but I decided to get a 3DS Zelda edition instead of the U to tide me over until I get a PS4. Saves me some money and I get very similar library but they are slow in releasing their top tier franchises, still waiting on a Metroid.

As a former Wii U owner and current Vita owner, I am not sure this option would be that much better than Xbox One/PS4. I guess it depends on your taste on games but Wii U just didn't do it for me. Vita is still looking for that killer app. Persona 4 Golden is a great game, and there are other handful of good games, but after 2 years, the game library still remains a lot to be desired.

I have a PS4 on the way and I am going to be keeping it for long term. I kept my launch PS3 for over 6 years before selling it. I don't see third party companies supporting Wii U as much as Xbox One/PS4 in the future.

I would rather go for a 3DS XL (owning both Vita and two 3DS XL's) rather than a Vita if you are absolutely looking for a portable.

This is how I am feeling.

The Xbox is tempting, and I think that there should be enough games to hold me off till TitanFall and other releases.

Xenoblade is a pretty rare game these days IIRC.

It's unfortunate you sold your PS4 because that system will get better. Though I do agree it's a bit of a PlayStation 3S, to borrow from Apple's terminology. It's still only a month into the console's life. Neither platform has any outstanding games, and the missing features will get added in eventually. Sooner rather than later I hope.

As for the Xbox One, it's not on my radar. Not because I have anything against the Xbox brand. Well, not anymore since they fixed their DRM debacle. Since the OP says he's a PC gamer, he may be better sticking to that platform. This is simply because Xbox is a system geared towards multi-platform games. Its list of notable exclusives is relatively small compared to Sony or Nintendo. It really falls into whether you really want to play Forza, Fable, Halo, and Gears of War. Most the other games will get released on PC. Steam is a treasure trove of games, which often go on sale for ridiculous prices. I saw Assassin's Creed IV going for like $40 the other day. If you're a CoD fan too, going to console will also be a bit of a drop down because keyboard & mouse is arguably far better for competitive shooters.

Both the Wii U and Vita I'm still lukewarm to. I like my Vita but in the long run, it's going to get more use as a second screen for my PS4. It has some lingering issues that still haven't been dealt with. Namely the insanely overpriced proprietary memory cards.

The Wii U still has yet to come into its own. I think you really have to love Nintendo's core franchises to make it worth your while. It still doesn't have a lot of upcoming games announced for it yet. Though Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros will be coming before summer. I think both the Wii and Wii U as well benefit more from a local multiplayer experience. A bunch of friends in the living room, rather than sitting alone playing online or single player.

See a PS4 + Vita is IMO the best option if you are looking for a dual console experience. With remote play and cross buy games they go well together. However, I personally would just go with the Xbox One and be done with it for now. Most of the better games IMO are on both the PS4 and XB1 anyway. So you wouldn't miss out and quite honestly I find the WiiU to be a massive waste of money. I owned one for a while and Mario was pretty fun for a bit and Lego City Undercover is a pretty fun game (but lego games offer zero real challenge outside of collectables), I grew very tired of Mario and there wasn't really anything else that drew my attention toward it. You really have to be in love with Nintendo for the WiiU to look appealing at this point in time. That's my opinion on it anyway. On the other hand I love the vita but that is mostly because of all the titles I have accumulated over the life of the system that are released to PSN+ members. It also has a few great fun charming titles like Little Big Planet and Tearaway that are a great deviation from the traditional hack and slash and shooter stuff.

Anyway my vote is the Xbox One. I give mine quite a bit of use, but I expect if Drive Club was released for PS4 as a launch game I'd be using it just as much because it seems like my most played games are NBA 2k14(I own it on PS4) and Forza 5 (XB1 exclusive) since those games are a little easier to drop in and out of, and they have serious longevity to them. I do have a bit of a soft spot for Max: Curse of Brotherhood on XB1 though. It's a great little puzzle platformer.

Ultimately you have to decide what type of gamer you are. If you are into shooters and really want to get in on the online play then the Xbox One is obvious choice. I would have just kept the PS4 and looked for a companion system for that, but the XB1 would be my choice given your info posted above. If you are going to be a little more casual and don't really see yourself getting into the online play stuff and also wouldn't use any of the XB1 media functions with the TV stuff, then the WiiU may work for you if you really like Nintendo's stuff. Most major 3rd party games will be better experienced elsewhere though IMO.

I would buy one console at a time. Either a Vita or a Wii U not both (since buy the time you finish enjoying one, it's very likely you'll be able to find the other 2nd hand for less).

I'd go for the Vita. Plenty of RPG games like Persona 4, and Final Fantasy X/X-2 is coming out in March, plus there are a ton of indie games that are regularly on sale on PSN. And you can find it for really cheap too.

I'd hold off on buying an Xbox One (even though I own one) simply because it sounds like you are going to have the same issue you had with the PS4. And since you've already played and beaten one of the exclusive games, that really only leaves Forza 5 and Dead Rising 3 for now. Maybe Titanfall will be to your liking though you already have a good gaming PC.

The Vita is going to give you games (namely RPGs) that you aren't going to find on other systems. It gets my vote.

I guess I might have sold my PS4 a little too soon.

I just played COD on my parents Xbox, and it was interesting cuz I haven't played with a controller for a while. But I did have fun.

I am just not sure at this point, I love the Xbox, the new interface, the controller, the games.

I am just worried about running out of games, and being dead in the water, although COD and Forza might be enough to hold me off until more games are released.

But them I am tempted by the Wii U and the Vita because of access to games right now, and quite a few of them.

I'll be honest here and people will disagree but I find the entire WiiU library outside of Mario to be bad. The third party games are better elsewhere and the exclusives outside of Mario are not that great.

Like I said you really gotta like Nintendo to get anything out of it in my opinion.

Dude, get the Vita. It's way cheaper and has tons of good games now. Play your way through that and then decide if you want to expand the Vita with the PS4 or the xbox one.

I bought a vita and a PS4 at the same time and have played the vita 10x more than the PS4 so far. The convenience factor is incredible and you just pick up and play anytime. The only games I've played so far is spelunky, hotline miami and gravity rush. I haven't even dived into persona 4 golden yet. I never realized what I was missing with the Vita until I bought it on a whim.

Just get the Vita, not the Wii U or X1. Play Vita, PSP, PS1 games and wait for another price drop on the Wii U before considering it.

Well I really want Nintendo for Monster Hunter 3. It looks like exactly what I am searching for.

So I think I might go 3DS XL and PS Vita. Then see which one I like more and decide which console to get after that.

What do you think?

Out of curiosity, what is the appeal with Monster Hunter? I tried the demo and it just seemed so dull. I believe I called it an unfun bastard love-child of Dynasty Warriors and Devil May Cry. The latter probably makes sense since they're both Capcom games. :p Anyway, in the demo, I just chased this silly abominable rabbit around and tried to kill it, but my god... the game has awful combat controls.

I'm a bit wary to advise someone to get the Wii U given its current state. It's been out for a year longer than its competition, yet in my opinion, it has just about as many good games. Now, some people may find that I'm a bit harsh on the Wii U's exclusives, but that's just my opinion on what's worthwhile. I have Super Mario Bros U + Luigi U, Super Mario 3D World and Wonderful 101. I'm not 100% sold on the latter yet though.

The 3DS has some decent games though, and Monster Hunter is only $20 for it. The only negative aspect is that you may want to get a Circle Pad Pro (add another $20 or so) if you're going to play Monster Hunter because Nintendo doesn't believe in having two thumbsticks by default. Of course, the Vita is also a nice machine, and Sony's been aggressively pricing them to help spur up interest. If you're already a PlayStation Plus member, then you'll get some great games for free. Although, you will need to spend a pretty penny on a memory card; however, there have been some decent sales on those recently.

Well I played Monster Hunter on the PSP, and I loved that game, I played at least 300 hours worth.

It was just one of those games that I will never forget, so of course I am expecting something great out of Monster Hunter 3, and playing it on the Wii U on my 60" plasma sounds pretty enticing. As well as being able to transfer my save, and then continue on the go with my 3DS.

I also didn't play any Wii games, and I was thinking that there are probably some good ones that I missed.

I am a huge RPG fan, I mean they are definitely my game of choice every time.

What would you recommend I do?

Try soul sacrifice on vita. If you are a psn+ subscriber it is currently a free title. It has a similar gameplay type.

Interestingly the WiiU + Vita is the exact combo I have for consoles right now. Though truth be told, they're supplementary devices for me rather than primary devices. I'm primarily a PC gamer, while the WiiU is my Mario/party machine, and the Vita is my portable machine. I'm not sure I could get away with just those two consoles as my primary machines since games don't come out for either as frequently as they do the PC or the PS4One.

Hmm well if you could trade your systems for anything, would you? Cuz I am the same as you, I game on my pc most of the time, so it is my primary device.

Also I will give Soul Sacrifice a shot

If you already have a PC for gaming, totally grab the Wii U and Vita combo. I wouldn't trade them for the world. The number of cross platform games that will be available on the PC and PS4One are immense, with the usual genres heavily represented. The games on the Wii U are in decidedly different genres (yay platformers!), and a portable console is useful for its own reasons.

My most anticipated games won't be available on pc. Which is the whole reason i have a ps4 and xb1 Lol
