jesus christ this is a thread about xbox1 preorders at best buy and you guys can't even keep the ps4 vs x1 discussions out of here. sad.

It isn't too bad though. The discussion is about the price only. I did not bring it up though, just replied.

Did you pre-order an Xbox One? I did not.

Still think MS is going to release a $299/349 kinect-less One after the holidays. It might even be announced in January.

you do realize that is $200 - $150 cheaper than the initial price, right? a $200 price drop 2 months after launch? yea ... not happening.

See the "Kinect-less" part. Kinect probably costs MS somewhere between 150-200 to make.

yes i saw that, and you are crazy to think that.

i think there is more a chance of them lowering the full price to like $400 or $450 and keeping kinect in. i do not think they are going to remove it at all anytime in the near future.

Oh what ever will we do without Fruit Ninja!

They are hoping people use it for voice commands and stuff as well. They put some effort into it for gamer profile recognition etc also. I don't think it will take off but I see what they are attempting.

I can't bring myself to preorder either console, as I really want to see which one is better before I spend the money.

I'll say this, when I played Forza 5 and Killer Instinct on the Xbox 1, I wasn't that impressed. It looked nice and a little better than 360, but I wasn't wowed like I was when I went from Xbox to 360 or PS1 to PS2.

I'm hoping they were just poor games to demo.

I read an article where they broke down the cost of all the parts for both the old and new Kinect. Trying to remember back, but the total cost was in the $60 or $70 region. Then you have to factor in R&D. But as far as materials, it isn't expensive.

Forza has come quite a ways in terms of visual quality over the years and I think the 360 game did look great and maybe the new one doesn't have quite a huge jump that is immediately apparent. I did notice that newer gameplay vids have much higher quality to them with little issues cleaned up.

Amazon has the same thing. Kind of stupid but easy enough to ignore.

I think it's more sad that Gamestop has to plaster this on the first page of their weekly ad. People still don't know that Kinect isn't required and all that? Geeze...and they call themselves gamers?

Sadly, they still don't have a good explanation as to why the damn thing costs $500... other than someone in Microsoft's marketing department having smoked a little too much crack this fall 🙂

i agree that the jump isn't HUGE at this point, but if you remember back to the launch of 360 the jump wasn't HUGE at that point either. it looks better and the stuff being done on the x1/ps4 definitely can't be done on the 360/ps3, but it isn't like the difference between a SNES and an N64 or anything. i don't think we will ever see those jumps again, not right off the bat at least.

what iv'e noticed with the huge jumps though is that it is in the details and lighting. if you pay attention to those two things, what they've showed far is leaps and bounds over the current gen consoles. and they are running buttery smooth for the most part. i've been playing far cry 3 on the 360 the past week or so, and man this game is showing the consoles age big time in all aspects.

*sigh*

I don't doubt that the ps4 was going to be $500 and Sony saw an opportunity to put salt into the would MS took when they laid out other plans for the console. I don't think $500 is unreasonable. Not when you get some value added features lacking on the ps4 anyway like the HDMI pass through for your cable box and the NFL stuff. I don't watch football that often but I can appreciate the added value for some. Whether it is $100 more value is an individual decision to make.

I already have an Xbone pre-order but unfortunately missed the PS4 pre-order.

Do not want to create a new thread so I will just post here.

For someone like me who will primarily use the system for watching Blu-rays, maybe Netflix, and the occasional platformer like Rayman Origins (I may also pick up FIFA if the demo is not too difficult), which system is best? I've been following the new console talk for the most part, but I honestly can't tell at this point which system would be better for me.

Any thoughts? Or are they kind of the same at this point for my needs. Just need to know so I can cancel my pre-order if need be.

Thanks.

KT

I'd just go for the cheaper of the two in that situation. Especially if you aren't going to be doing multiplayer, I don't think PS4 requires PS+ to use Netflix. At least on the 360, you need to have XBL.

Both will suit your needs, but the Xbox One will be more expensive and require a gold membership (that includes Hulu+, UFC, ESPN and some NFL content that hasn't been fully detailed). If you only plan on the occasional game, the PS4 is probably your best choice because it is cheaper.

If money isn't an object, just take a loot at the announced line up and exclusive franchises (because they will most likely get a game) and pick whichever you want to play more. If you want Halo, Xbox One; if you want God of War, PS4.

The in store pickup option is available on their site. You can go in store to preorder if you want to put a custom amount down. If you do it online use your best buy credit card because it will keep charging you that amount until you pick it up so don't use a debit card.

Don't think I will do multiplayer much, if at all. I use my PC for MP games. I don't want to pay for another service just to watch Netflix if I am already paying for Netflix. That makes no sense.

I don't think I care about Halo, I recently bought Halo Reach and played it for about an hour before giving it up. Too bad because I loved CE on the PC, but Reach did nothing for me.

I did like the God of War I played back in the day; pretty fun button masher.

Thanks for the info. Very helpful.
