Looks like the ps4 suits you better. If you care about the ms specific games than you could say the Xbox would be better. Besides someone mentioned you don't nerd to pay for the Sony online system unless you are going to do multiplayer.
sounds like you should just buy a bluray player instead of a console, it'll save you about $300.
I already have one. I want the option to play a game or two. Like I said, things like Rayman Origins I enjoy and maybe a couple of sports games. I don't mind paying a bit more just to have that available.
Only other thing I wonder about is the Kinect. Has there been any hands on with that yet to show if it is much improved over the previous version?

i heard it is $100 more because it comes with a monster brand hdmi cable.
There are a few tech demo type things. The technology and accuracy is supposed to be vastly improved, but what was done with the Kinect SDK on PC surpassed anything done on the consoles with the original.
If it is worth the extra $100 for you to hope it turn into something you like, the Xbox One would be the way to go. Honestly though, if you're not that interested in gaming, I'd just cancel the preorder and wait for a price drop. If you aren't in a hurry to grab one, no reason paying full retail. Wait for a good deal or a bundle.
Actually, even a PS3 wouldn't be a bad choice for light gaming. It won't lose support for probably another 6-8 months and has a large enough library, it might not matter after it does.
then get what console has the games that you want to play on it, or has them announced for it. we can't tell you what games you like, only you can.
I already have an Xbone pre-order but unfortunately missed the PS4 pre-order.
Do not want to create a new thread so I will just post here.
For someone like me who will primarily use the system for watching Blu-rays, maybe Netflix, and the occasional platformer like Rayman Origins (I may also pick up FIFA if the demo is not too difficult), which system is best? I've been following the new console talk for the most part, but I honestly can't tell at this point which system would be better for me.
Any thoughts? Or are they kind of the same at this point for my needs. Just need to know so I can cancel my pre-order if need be.
Thanks.

I'm sold.. they gold plated to?
I think maybe you should just wait for a few months and see how everything shakes out. I'm sure you could be entertained with your current systems until then, and then you won't make a mistake and spend the money on a console that doesn't really fit your needs.I already have one. PS4 has no need to pay for premium services to use netflix etc. You may like Knack too. I dunno. For casual/occasional gaming it's hard to recommend either one right now. There's just not enough hands on impressions and no reviews yet. Plus the indie situation is unknown. It sounds like you'd really get into some of the lower budget titles that indie developers offer. We don't know yet whether they will both get the same titles or whether some developers will gravitate toward one system. Most of the games we know are announced are pretty hardcore titles in various genres. Racing sim games, online competitive shooters, fighting games etc. Not a lot of stuff for someone who is only an occasional player. At least I wouldn't say so. If the opportunity arises I would buy one of them just to have it if I were even thinking of it, but it wouldn't have to be day one.

I know how you feel. I really want one, but I know that I am too busy with school and work right now to get one, and figured I would wait until early next year since I am going to take a lighter school schedule. It also helped that my really good friends aren't getting a new console right away too. I knew that I would be playing it alone or would have to jump on my older systems to play with them, and then I would feel like I wasted money on the new consoles.Probably a good call. I just get antsy and I promised my Blu-ray player to someone for Christmas, so will need a replacement.

Whoa, just watched some gameplay and Knack looks really cool. I think whomever mentioned that one to me above is right, could be right up my alley.

I think we will probably have to wait for the launch title reviews, but after that, they should be coming in early. I pretty much ignore most reviews anyway unless it is an obscure game and even then, it is only user reviews. I buy games I think I'll like. If I don't like them, well, I guess I'm out $60. And I usually play a few hours before deciding I hate it, so my money is not exactly being wasted. I could go to the movies and spend $20 for 2 hours of entertainment or $60 and only get maybe 6.
So you think reviews won't appear for launch titles until the system officially launches? As in the day we can buy the games we get reviews?
I like reading reviews on games I am unsure of to get a feel for how people are reacting to the game and what flaws might be noticed. I usually will read more than one to feel out what to expect. I don't base my whole decision solely on them but it does help if multiple reviewers love a game. I can feel more comfortable taking a chance on it.

Like I said there are a couple of games I am unsure about right now that are on my pre-order list. It would be easy enough to just pass on them if they aren't that good though. I was just wondering if there was going to be an NDA expiration date.
Yeah I thought so. It is from Mark Cerny who brought us crash bandicoot, ratchet and clank, & jack and daxter. It doesn't have that next gen wow factor in graphics but the particle effects and lighting seem well done.
