that's not going anyway, new consoles will be crossgen cities forevermore.

I'd scrap a low-tier console or turn it into the mobile version. The strength of consoles has always been having a single platform that developers could tune their games for to eke out every last drop of performance.

Microsoft seems like they're going to try to own that platform but let anyone make hardware that supports it. This might be initially successful in that they pass costs on to third parties, but eventually it turns out like it did for Apple with the Mac clones.

This hasn't been true ever since PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.
Two-three targets per gen are the new norm.

Node for potential xbox to be revealed next year

Possibly zen 5(c?) + RDNA 5 on N3P tailored for AMD

AFAIK in documents they say it's N2P, however it's almost certainly a custom node that doesn't fit exactly in what TSMC describes as N2/N2P/N2X. In some gfx13/RDNA5 stuff I have seen terms like "AMD3NP" for example.

Could Magnus usher in the end of Phil Spencer's reign 🤔

Phil Spencer Will Allegedly Retire as CEO After Next-Gen Console Launch

The news comes from @TheGhostofHope, who has a decent track record regarding Call of Duty leaks.

According to Hope, “Phil Spencer is working closely with Sarah Bond and her team to ensure a smooth transition for her takeover as CEO of Microsoft Gaming once he retires.”

It’s a rumor that I’ve also heard a couple of times this year at the Summer Game Fest, and while I can’t fully corroborate the claims, it’s scuttlebutt that has been circulating for some time. And I guess… It’s probably an easy speculation and expectation.

In fact, and for added context on how often I’ve heard this rumor in the past couple of months, I even had a skeleton pre-write ready for today about Spencer leaving, just in case he stepped down earlier, given today’s recent bloodbath of layoffs.

In an update, Frank Shaw tells me, “It’s not true that Phil is planning to retire. I know you didn’t start the rumor!”

Regardless, the scuttlebutt at Summer Game Fest was that Phil Spencer is going to retire after the next-generation console launch, but as stated in the original article, I cannot corroborate the initial rumor.

As pointed out by several people already, logically it makes sense for Phil to hang up the controller around then anyway, as he’ll be just shy of 60 by the time the next generation comes around.

In a statement to The Verge, “Phil is not retiring anytime soon,” says Kari Perez, head of Xbox communications

In a response to a tweet I made about the initial rumor itself being summed up nicely, Shaw replied: so long as by “summed it up” you mean “made it up.”
