Xbox Modding

Should i pay 90 bucks for someone to mod it for me which includes the mod chip and several applications already installed.

Or

Should i just do it myself?

What are you going to do with it, once you mod it?

I have an extra Xbox and I've been considering modding it... But I can't really figure out what it would be good for, other than pirating games.

Does that $90 include the chip? If not, then that is a bit steep. If so, then that might not be too bad if you aren't comfortable opening it up and doing it yourself. You can get solderless adapters for most the chips these days so the install is really pretty easy. The only soldering you may need to do is if you want to have LAN and LED activity LEDS.

also using those other applications like the xbox media center, being able to play all types of DVD disk and CD disk etc.

the person i saw online would do it for 90 plus would also install a larger hard drive for free if i buy it myself.

I saw the person on craighlist.

I guess streaming mp3's from my PC is somewhat interesting, but certainly not worth the cost/hassle.

I know people stream video as well, but what kind of video?

Yeah, XBMC is my most used app. It's also my dashboard. A friend of mine has ReplayTV and uses XBMC to stream shows recorded on his ReplayTV to another room where his XBox located. Pretty handy.

Contact Bullsonparade on here. He modded mine and has been so great w/ providing tech support. His prices are also very competative.

it plays practically every format. I was shocked to see it even plays .rmvb (a format of real player).
So... Aside from pirated movies and such, what's there to download that I might want to watch on my RPTV?

I don't know why you're asking... anything that you would watch on your PC. I love it for missed tv eps... if you don't watch any vids on your PC, then you wouldn't NEED it. I got tired of watching stuff on my laptop when I was out in the living room. 15" screen vs. 57".

And music... my home theatre is obviously better than my PC sound system.

I guess that's why I'm asking... I don't watch anything on my PC other than little video clips (i.e. trailers.) I have DirecTiVo, so I never miss TV shows. 😉

It just seems as though I'm missing out on something, with so many people modding out there, but I can't figure out what it is. (Aside from pirating games and movies, that is.)
