I won't be surprised if they get around it but I hope they do not. We still don't have digital cable descrambler boxes yet (and they have been in use for 4+ years) so I guess this could take years to figure out for all those hackers out there. I love Live, it is better than PC online gaming.

Hi, im new here but i thought id shed some light on the subject as my friend has a mod chip. With some new software you can change your Unique ID to anything, and some proggie callled XBconnect allows you to play online for free. With mod chips you have the option to install a switch. Which turns the Chip on or off, which would allow you to play any software no matter the protection cuz it wouldnt know the chip is on there.
I'm not saying it is right :)

Watch out, I dont think helping with illegal mods is allowed. Not sure though but you should check before u get banned or something.

Ask Microsoft, I'm cool with it... I think they're worried about profit or something:p

well they could prevent mod-chips acutally by making a case which cannot be opened by joe average and use some properitary connections and not USB, etc.

Dunno, sux for them I guess... I dont think opening the case is the problem, it's once you open it and start soldering stuff that requires skill I figure. I never modded an Xbox but am assuming about the soldering...

That's a nonissue. MS wouldn't even accept a modded xbox, because the case would have been opened, thus voiding the warranty.

If you can solder a modchip, you can probably easily open (or break) a box. Probably make a modded screwdriver for the proprietary screws or something. :p

They should just machine it outa a big chunk of Aluminum, might move up the retail bundle price though...

This sucks for anyone out there looking to buy a used xbox. There will literally be no way to tell whether the xbox you bought was modded, banned on XBL, and then un-modded back to the original settings.

don't u break certain stickers or whatever when you crack open consoles? kinda like on harddrives and other stuff you can't open without voiding the warrantee?

You mean those stickers they never glue on tightly enough to prevent removal without breaking it? The ones you can place back after messing with it?

Are they? If I buy a Xbox (or any other console) what right does the manufacturer have to tell me what I can and can't do with it? I bought it fair 'n square it's mine, I can do whatever I want with it! Their rights to that console ends when the money changes hands. After that, it's mine, and I can use it any way I want to.

THERE IS NO NEED TO WORRY ANYMORE. Microsoft stopped banning consoles with mod chips. They now just prevent them from logging in. All you need to do is put a switch for the mod chip. When you want to play online just disable the mod chip with the switch and when you want to play your imports turn the mod chip on.
