I hope nobody is surprised by this... I was pretty sure they were going to do this all along.
What'll be funnier is if you registered your xbox with MS and they caught you with an illegal mod chip. Would be pretty funny to see some kid piss his pants when a microsoft rep showed up with a cop and a search warrant. 😉

Perhaps you should have taken into account that not all of the people who mod the Xbox are pirates. If I were a console fan, I would be more attracted to the ability to play DiVX's or run linux than pirate the games. Not that it makes any different to Microsoft, but it's not accurate to assuming that all modded Xbox owners have piracy in mind.

this is good and bad. its good that peopel who pirate games get screwed by this. but thoes who have a mod chip to play an imported game are loosin out.
Ms and sony should make offical Mod chips that allow imported games to work because some of them are really good and we are missin out.

Ok, I got a serious question. I don't have an X-Box or any mod chips (obviously), but aren't there any mod chips out there that allow for other functionality? (Like VCD, or mp3) I don't know much, cuz I've never really researched them.
But aren't there chips that do this? And in THAT case, do you all still think that it's ok for MS to want to do this. GRANTED, yes, I believe they have every right to protect their interests by banning these people with chips for illegal GAMES.

I've considered modding consoles for the ability to play imports alot of times. If I were able to use forth party (read: independant) software on the xbox, I might get one. But since I can't, I haven't.

Mask the SN flag or prevent the box from being able to id the modifications. (hardware knowledge required)
Modify a burner to not only be able to copy the disks but to be able to put the region on them! A warped version of Yamaha's disk T@2 could (possibly) do this. (Again hardware knowledge required!)
